Impact Wrestling Review: Sting Becomes Number One Contender

This episode of Impact Wrestling was the second round in Indiana, Pennsylvania. It was mainly revolved around Hulk Hogan determining the number one contender for Bully Ray's TNA World Heavyweight Championship at Slammiversary.

It is good to see that Matt Morgan is, for the most part, being utilized in a good way. The beginning segment where Hulk Hogan and Sting made amends was a bit cheesy, and could have been stretched out a bit more. Sting could have made one more run as his full-fledged Crow gimmick, having a proper send-off at Bound for Glory by winning the TNA World Heavyweight Championship and retiring. Instead, we get TNA's Sting vs. Matt Morgan to determine the No. 1 contender.

Chris Sabin vs. Zema Ion vs. Sonjay Dutt was a good match, but this new X Division structure continues to be so convoluted. Surprisingly, the crowd was not into Sabin as much as I expected. Maybe he needs to prove himself again, which I believe he has proven enough. He is definitely up there with AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels in terms of wrestling. Next week's X Division title match including Petey Williams and Kenny King should be good.

Rob Terry vs. Joey Ryan, Jessie Godderz, and Robbie E was a waste of time. This feud is going to get old, fast. Like I said, Rob Terry needs to break away from anything dealing with Robbie E is he wants to be a legitimate babyface. The "Sleazy Pec-tacular Bros" trio is okay to stay around for a while as spot-fillers, but just not associated with Rob Terry. Consider them the 3MB of TNA.

So James Storm is the special guest referee of next week's tag team No. 1 contenders match... still does not take away the fact that we are still seeing the same three tag teams in the title picture.

Kurt Angle vs. D'lo was quite interesting. It finally appears as if we are experiencing a crack in the Aces and Eights machine. I am fine with D'lo being a member of Aces and Eights, as he was the "insider" of the group, as well as him getting some TV time. Seemingly, he won't be a member of the the group for long, which may indicate the start of the end.

Taryn Terrell/Mickie James vs. Tara/Gail Kim was decent. However, the post-match activities were the best part. It is good to see Gail Kim revive her mean streak, and that Bret Hart-esque Figure Four on the post was nice.

Sting vs. Matt Morgan was decent, but a bit slow. The Scorpion Deathlock looked very weak, and he should retire that move if he can't do it right anymore. Especially seeing how he would lock that move in very well for most of his career. Although it may not be a preference by many, Sting winning was a good choice. His match against Bully Ray at Slammiversary is definitely a bigger draw than if Morgan was the No. 1 contender.

Sound off with your Impact Wrestling thoughts.
