Paul Heyman Talks Promo That Led To His Return, Brock Lesnar's Response To The Streak Ending

Both Paul Heyman and Edge were guests on Chris Jericho's "Talk Is Jericho" podcast, and the two-part series is becoming quite popular among wrestling fans. Listen to it here.

Heyman spoke to Chris Jericho about several WWE topics, including Brock Lesnar breaking The Undertaker's WrestleMania streak. The former ECW boss compared the situation to when Ivan Koloff pinned Bruno Sammartino in Madison Square Garden in 1971.

"You can hear a pin drop when it happened because everybody was in such shock," Heyman said.

Like Sammartino, Lesnar told Heyman he thought he had lost his hearing when the referee made the three count. Heyman also said the audience's reaction was simply going to be unexpected. He said The Undertaker's wins at WrestleMania were constant, and that fans would have never truly believed the streak was going to end.

The wrestling guru also spoke about his return to WWE, and the promo that led to his rehiring. It happened when Lesnar returned and had to do some work on the mic. Originally, John Laurinaitis was his mouthpiece, which didn't work out so well.

After conducting an awkward promo alongside Vince McMahon, Lesnar suggested he call back Heyman and have him do his mic work for him. Heyman said he had to do some voiceovers for a few DVDs, and was hesitant about returning because he was enjoying his downtime with his family.

Heyman did credit CM Punk's infamous pipe bomb promo for generating awareness about him after so much time off.

"All of a sudden I'm relevant again," said Heyman.

Since that promo, Heyman had a lot of people asking him if he was returning. He received a call from WWE citing production problems for the voiceovers, and Heyman told both Jericho and Edge they never have production problems to begin with. He then met with Triple H, who hinted at working for the company leading up to WrestleMania 29 in New Jersey.

"It was a very convincing pitch," Heyman confessed. "So, I took it."
