UFC 178's Demetrious Johnson Finds Gap In His Game Plan

Another flyweight title bout for Demetrious Johnson is in the books and the champ continues his climb as the best pound-for-pound fighter on the UFC roster. Even after a send round submission victory of Chris Cariaso, Johnson still managed to find a hole in his almost flawless game plan.

"Chris Cariaso's a tough opponent," said Johnson post-fight. "I was a little too patient for my own good, but sometimes that's good. That way, I'm not overextended and I don't get knocked out."

In the main event of UFC 178, Johnson used his speed to outwork the challenger.

Johnson is the first and only flyweight champion in UFC history. He's defended the gold five times since being crowned the inaugural champ in January 2013. Three of those wins have ended by stoppage, including his kimura victory over Cariaso.

The defeat snapped Cariaso's three fight win streak and he drops to 17-6. Before being a flyweight, Cariaso spent most of his career at bantamweight.

As for what's next, Johnson will leave that up to the UFC bosses.

"I'm never a man who calls out my opponents," said Johnson. "I just answer the phone and fight."
