Drew McIntyre Talks Release From WWE, 3-Man Band, What He's Doing Now, More

Former WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre, who is now performing as Drew Galloway, recently appeared on Colt Cabana's "The Art of Wrestling" podcast and discussed his start in the business, his time in WWE and what he's up to now. Galloway was extremely appreciative for his time in WWE, explaining that he was able to experience and accomplish many things that wouldn't have been possible without the company's support. Reflecting on his release from WWE, Galloway said he wasn't really expecting it because he'd felt like the 3 Man Band stable with Heath Slater and Jinder Mahal was finally getting over with fans.

"More than anything, when I got the call I was kind of surprised but I was like, 'Okay. I'm just going to take this as an opportunity to better myself and come back one day as a new guy,'" Galloway recalled. Cabana noted that he'd talked to Wade Barrett shortly after hearing about Drew's release and that Barrett confirmed that he'd taken the news in stride.

Further discussing 3 Man Band, Galloway said that the act had come about through the three performers having simply having a good time.

"With 3MB, it was getting over in places like New York and obviously Europe it was huge," he said. "We took it as, 'Okay, cool. In the end, we're in WWE and they gave us an opportunity no matter how anyone feels about it, we're going to give it everything we have and we're going to have a laugh with it.' And we had the best laugh we could." He continued, "I think we were together for about a year and a half and people were either starting to either sympathize with us or get with us and they were like, 'Oh these guys are funny. They're just having a laugh. I like them.' It was just kind of picking up. We were on everything."

Cabana and Galloway reminisced about Galloway's start in OVW and Colt noted that Drew was picked to go on the road for OVW just two weeks after he'd started there, which was rather atypical at the time. He indicated that he felt like his work in the Money in the Bank match at WrestleMania 26 was a personal high point in his work in WWE.

Galloway also discussed his recent work with Scotland's Insane Championship Wrestling and traded stories with Cabana about Scottish grappler Grado. In addition to currently holding the ICW heavyweight title, Galloway is also working shows in the United States and he recently faced Tommy Dreamer in a hardcore match at a Family Entertainment Wrestling show in Brooklyn, New York. After the match, Dreamer commended Galloway for his work in the ring and his new attitude. The video for that promo is posted above. Their match is also discussed in detail in the "Independent Roundup" section of the latest issue of Pro Wrestling Illustrated.
