Bray Wyatt Reveals Which Former WWE Star Inspired His Character, How He Came Up With His Name

The Bray Wyatt character has captivated fans and revived a career that seemed to be doomed to misdirection. Wyatt, the former Husky Harris, appeared on Stone Cold's podcast to talk about how his career took a change, and what inspired him.

Austin drew comparisons between Wyatt and Waylon Mercy, which many have pointed to as the blueprint for the character. Wyatt said that he was told to "change or he wasn't needed anymore." He thought he was doing great, but was told that.

Wyatt said that Dan Spivey (who played Waylon Mercy) was at the Performance Center the day he was told that and had a conversation with him. Spivey explained the Mercy character, and Wyatt watched it along with some Robert DeNiro films, Rob Zombie films and Charles Manson interviews and wanted to combine them.

"It became natural for me," Wyatt said. "If you would have thrown Husky a microphone and said 'talk,' it would have been wrong."

Wyatt said as a child he had a really intense childhood friend named Bray White. White was in a car accident when he was a child and lost all feeling in his face, rendering him difficult to knock out. He said that's how he came up with the "Bray" part of his name, and "Wyatt" came from Wyatt Earp.
