Backstage News On Original Plans For Roman Reigns Vs. Kevin Owens Match On WWE RAW

As noted, U.S. Champion Roman Reigns defeated WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens clean via pinfall at WWE live events this past weekend. Oddly enough, it was Reigns' U.S. title that was on the line in those matches.

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the original plan for this past Monday's RAW was for the match between Reigns and Owens to be for Reigns' U.S. title. Originally the live event matches were supposed to be title vs. title, however Stephanie McMahon ruled that only Reigns' U.S. title would be on the line. On RAW, the match was changed to a non-title match with the stipulation that Reigns would face Owens at WWE Roadblock for the belt if he were victorious, which he was.
