Welcome to WrestlingINC.com's live, match-by-match coverage of WWE SummerSlam from the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. Remember to keep refreshing this page for the most up to date results by hitting F5 on your keyboard. Now, on to the action! A promo for SummerSlam aired showing clips from past SummerSlam's. The Edge - Undertaker match was then previewed in the promo. Interesting that nothing was featured in the promo for the World title matches or for Cena - Batista. The Big Show defeated Bam Neely in a dark match. (Thanks to Peter J.)
Jeff Hardy vs. MVP The two brawled early until MVP gained an advantage until Jeff Hardy charged MVP, and MVP caught Hardy in a belly to belly suplex into the corner. MVP then worked Hardy over with a myriad of submission holds. MVP continued to dominate the match until he went for his kick and Hardy countered with a clothesline. Hardy continued to dominate and went for the swanton when Shelton Benjamin ran to ringside. Hardy nailed Benjamin outside the ring and went for the swanton again on MVP, but MVP rolled out of the way and hit his kick to Hardy's head to get the win. Winner by pinfall: MVP After the match Tazz and Jim Ross kept noting that Hardy's emotion and recklessness cost him the match. Maria was backstage talking about the Intercontinental Championship & Women's championship match when Santino Marella and Beth Phoenix came in. Marella called him and Phoenix "Glamarella". The Hell In A Cell cage was shown and tonight's AT&T Mobile Text question was if Edge and Vickie will divorce.
Winners Take All Tag Team Match Santino has new tights, almost looks like Marella got them from Chris Harris while Harris was on his way out. Kofi looked really good here, doing all sorts of cool moves with his impressive leaping ability. At one point Kofi went for a dive onto Marella who was outside the ring talking to Phoenix, but Marella jumped into Phoenix's arms and Kofi broke his dive on the top rope. The finish of the match saw Kofi run at Marella, who pulled down the top rope sending Kofi over the top. Mickie hit Santino with a DDT and Phoenix grabbed Mickie and hit the implant buster to win the titles. Winner and new Women's and Intercontinental Champion: Beth Phoenix and Santino Marella The Shawn Michaels announcement is up next. Michaels came to the ring with his wife, former Nitro girl, Rebecca with him. Jerry Lawler noted that it was a bad sign. Michaels said that his doctor recommended that he walk away, but that it was Michaels' decision. Michaels said that after speaking with his wife and family, he has decided to heed his doctor's advice and walk away. Michaels thanked the fans and talked about how he was known as Mr. WrestleMania, the man who screwed Bret Hart, the man who retired Ric Flair amongst other things. Michaels said he wants to be known now as a good father. As he started to wind down, Chris Jericho's music hit and he started to come down to the ring wearing a suit and tie and looking unhappy. Jericho said "No", and that he wasn't going to allow Michaels to walk away this way. He wanted Michaels to admit that he was walking away due to what Jericho did to him. Michaels said he would go home and tell his wife and kids that if Jericho went home and told his wife and kids that he will never be Shawn Michaels. Michaels then went to leave and Jericho went to punch him but Michaels moved and Jericho hit Rebecca knocking her out. The segment ended with Michaels attending to Rebecca and staring at Jericho as he left and then went back to attending to his wife. This feud is easily one of the best in the WWE in a long time. Eventually Rebecca got up and her and Michaels left the ring together. They showed a closeup of her face and her lip was swollen as they walked to the back. A promo for Street Kings aired.
ECW Championship Match Hardy hit a twist of fate almost immediately and Tony Atlas broke the count, prompting the referee to call for the bell. Really. Tony Atlas started beating on Hardy when Jeff Hardy ran down to ringside and made the save, and eventually hit a swanton on Atlas outside the ring. The Hardy's then proceeded to double suplex Mark Henry outside of the ring. With this ending, I would expect the Cena - Batista match to have a clear winner (I've been expecting a screwjob ending) but I'm not holding my breath. Winner via disqualification: Matt Hardy Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole were shown at ringside introducing the World Heavyweight Championship match.
World Heavyweight Championship Match Punk got the advantage early with a series of kicks and a dive onto JBL outside of the ring. He followed it up with a crossbody from the top rope inside the ring and got a two count. JBP then hit a shoulder tackle on Punk to gain the advantage. He then put Punk on the top rope and hit a fall away slam from the second rope for a two count. This was a better match than I expected and the crowd stayed with it the entire way. At one point they bumped heads which busted the back of Punk's head open. The end of the match saw JBP go for a clothesline and Punk ducked, hit the GTS and got the clean pin. This is the first time Punk hasn't been treated like an unworthy champion on PPV since winning the title. Winner via pinfall and still WWE Champion: CM Punk The Great Khali was shown in the back getting ready for his match with Triple H.
WWE Championship Match Jim Ross noted that Triple H hasn't lost a SummerSlam match in six years. As a side note, Triple H has been married to Stephanie McMahon for almost five years and they were officially dating for a couple of years before that. HHH and Khali started brawling early and Triple H went for a pedigree right off the bad. Khali got out of it and hit a tree slam on HHH and then showboated. He signaled for the vice grip and got it on HHH but HHH was able to get out and knocked Khali out of the ring. Outside of the ring Khali worked Triple H over and threw him back in the ring. Back in the ring, Khali continued to dominate Triple H and a loud "You Can't Wrestle" chant broke. Finally Triple H was able to power out of a nerve hold and hit a facebuster on Khali, knocking Khali into the ropes and tying him up. As Triple H charged Khali, Khali got a boot up and regained the advantage. Triple H quickly went for a pedigree, but Khali backdropped Triple H outside of the ring. Khali kept the advantage for the next several minutes and once again got the vice grip on HHH. Finally Triple H was able to power out and went for a pedigree again, and was able to get it this time. Not terrible, I've seen worse Khali matches. Winner via pinfall and still WWE Champion: Triple H
John Cena vs. Batista Batista continued to pound on Cena and even went for a figure four, which was pretty ugly. Cena was able to get to the ropes and then got Batista in an FU and threw him over the top rope to the outside. Cena sold the effects of the figure four until Batista got back in the ring. Crowd is now solidly booing Cena as he went for the five knuckle shuffle, which he hit. As he went for the FU, Batista got out of it and hit Cena with a boot to the face. Cena was later able to regain the advantage and locked in an STFU. Cena held it in for several minutes before Batista made it to the ropes. It's interesting that the crowd is booing Cena, but they're not cheering Batista either. Cena later went for an FU again but Batista was able to transition it into a rear naked choke. Cena was able to get out and Batista nailed him with a spear for a two count. He went for a bodyslam, but Cena reversed it and hit a FU, but was slow to cover Batista and only got a two count as well. The crowd is on their feet at this point. Cena went to the top rope and Batista climbed the ropes and they exchanged punches, which eventually knocked Batista to the mat. Cena came off the top but Batista caught Cena in a powerbomb and was only able to get a two count. Great false finish. He then kicked Cena and hit a Batista bomb for a clean pin. Interestingly Cena has jobbed at 5 of the last 7 pay per views. Seems strange that Cena is jobbing this much and there might be more to this story. Winner via pinfall: Batista That was a really good match, but it still feels like they wasted a WrestleMania main event for a card where it's second from the top. The AT&T Mobile vote shows that 78% of people think that Edge and Vickie will divorce. They still have an hour left so they're giving a lot of time for the "Hell In A Cell" match.
"Hell In A Cell" Match Edge came out first doing his maniacal faces as he made the ring. Undertaker came out next to a huge pop while Edge smiled with a crazy grin. Edge started teeing off on Taker early before being met with a big boot from the Dead Man. Taker then threw Edge over the top rope and drove Edge into the cage. Undertaker continued to brutalize Edge and La Familia was shown in the back watching the match. Taker brought the ring steps in the ring and was going for snake eyes on Edge, but Edge was able to counter it and drive Taker into the steps. He then speared Taker into the steps and nailed Taker with the steps again when he got up. Edge then went other the ring and brought out tables and chairs and nailed Taker with some hard chair shots to Taker's spine. He then went under the ring and grabbed a ladder and then hit another chair shot to Taker's head. He setup a ladder and then Taker with another unprotected chair shot to the head. He then set Taker on a table and climbed to the top of the ladder with a chair and splashed Taker chair first through the table. He went for the first cover of the night and got a two count. Edge went for the conchairto but Taker was able to block it. Taker hit a big boot and knocked Edge to the outside as he regained the advantage. He then brought the steps to the outside and hit Edge with them. He tried to drive Edge into the ringpost head first, but Edge reversed and Taker went into the ring pole head first. Edge placed Taker against the Edge and went for a spear that knocked Taker through a section of the cage! They are now outside the ring with Taker dominating. Outside the ring Taker threw Edge into the railing, and then Edge was able to crack Taker's skull with a monitor. Undertaker stood up on the Raw announce table and Edge got on the Smackdown announce table and charged the Undertaker, running across two announce tables and spearing Taker with both men breaking the table and hitting the ground. Very brutal match so far and they still have a lot of time to go. Finally they went back into the cage and back in he ring with Edge going in first. As Taker went in the ring, he was met with a ladder to the face. Edge got a television camera from under the ring and nailed Taker with it and got a two count. Edge went for a spear but was met with a chokeslam, but Taker only got a two count. Taker then went for a powerbomb, but Edge hit a low blow. Edge then hit an impaler DDT for a two count. Taker was able to get up and went for the last ride on a table outside of the ring, but Edge got out and hit a spear for another two count. Edge started punching away at the Undertaker in the corner but Taker was able to turn it into the Last Ride and only got a two count! Taker then got Edge up on the steel steps and went for a piledriver, but Edge reversed it and drove Taker back first into the steps for yet another two count. Edge got Taker up and went for old school, but Taker pulled away and chokeslammed Edge from the top rope through two tables outside of the ring! Taker threw Edge back into the ring and speared Edge! He then grabbed the TV camera and cracked Edge hard with it, breaking the camera over Edge's skull. He then hit the conchairto on Edge. He got Edge up and hit the tombstone to finally get the three count. Excellent match, one of the most physical ones I've seen in a long time. Winner via pinfall: The Undertaker After the match as Undertaker was heading to the back, he saw Edge getting up and then went back to the ring. He put Edge up on a ladder, then grabbed another ladder and set it up next to Edge's. Taker climbed the ladder and said something like "Now you go to hell". He grabbed Edge by the throat from the top of the ladder and chokeslammed Edge through the mat! It's been a long time since they've done that spot. Flames then came up from the hole in the mat as Jim Ross exclaimed "The Undertaker has sent Edge straight to hell" and the show came to a close. For another set of detailed results, click here.
