Unforgiven' Buyrate Revealed, TNA In Detroit, More News

Unforgiven' Buyrate Revealed, TNA In Detroit, More NewsWorld Wrestling Entertainment released the early PPV buyrate for the Unforgiven PPV on September 17 over on their corporate website. The show, which was headlined by Edge vs. John Cena in a TLC Match for the WWE Title and DX vs. The McMahon's & Big Show in a Hell in a Cell, drew 285,000 buys so far. That figure is up from last year's early 225,000 buys, which later turned out to be 260,000 buys in total. That show was headlined by John Cena vs. Kurt Angle for the WWE Title and Edge vs. Matt Hardy in a Steel Cage Match. We should also keep in mind WWE's higher count of international PPV buys this year compared to last year. With the release of the final number, the show could easily approach 200,000 buys domestically without counting international buys. As of now, Unforgiven is the second most purchased single brand WWE PPV this year and is slightly ahead of ECW One Night Stand II. It is just behind Smackdown's Great American Bash PPV that reported a total of 330,000 buys.

Justin sent us word on Thursday bringing up the fact that if the Detroit Tigers won the AL Championship Series this week, the second game of the World Series would conflict with the Bound For Glory PPV on October 22 (next Sunday) in Plymouth, Michigan. Well, that happened last night with Detroit defeating Oakland 6-3 to advance to the World Series. Whether or not this will have a big effect on TNA's ticket sales and buyrate for Bound For Glory remains to be seen, although I think it is safe to say that no one would like to go head-to-head with those games at all.
