In a few weeks, WrestlingInc.com will be debuting its 'Blogs' section. This blog is one of our first, called 'A Wrestling Reporter's Journal', written by Brady Hicks of Pro Wrestling Illustrated.
Cue the countdown. I'm channeling the spirit of good ol' Y2J and his giant clock for this column. Because Brady Hicks is returning to the mainstream wrestling news-site community after a bit of a hiatus. He's taken on a number of projects since you've read him last. Most notably, Hicks landed a writing position with the Pro Wrestling Illustrated family of magazines.
If you're a younger fan, there's a good chance you've never heard of him. If that's the case, I'm very sorry for your loss. I will do my best to acclimate you with all of the truth that is professional wrestling in the US. On the flip side, if you've heard of Hicks - whether through PWI or through his controversial syndicated KUM On In columns of the late 1990s and early 2000s, then - again - I must apologize for your loss.
But when there are a lot of random ideas floating around in my massive head I don't apologize. I just like to play a little game with you all. I call it News Item and Gut Reaction. Let's see if you can figure out how it goes.
News Item: Brady Hicks Debuts with WrestlingInc.com
Gut Reaction: This is an interesting development. It's been a few years since Brady and his controversial KUM On In column left a site that competes with WrestlingInc. Hicks was immensely popular at the time of his departure. Hicks would take his column on the road, and - in 2006 - finally land the job of his dreams with the folks at London Publishing.
You should know: Brady pulls no punches. He will make fun of you if you say something stupid.
You should also know: You most likely will.
News Item: Vince McMahon Wins the ECW Title
"Moments after shocking the Land of Extreme by winning the ECW World Championship at Backlash, Mr. McMahon demanded a photo shoot with his newly-won title. Check out the photos and behind-the-scenes video now." -- WWE.com
Gut Reaction: The wrestling world is headed for nuclear meltdown. Mr. McMahon - who only three months ago told Donald Trump he was not medically cleared to fight at WrestleMania - has won the second world title of his WWE wrestling career. That's right folks, the unthinkable has happened. Mr. Vince McMahon has captured his second world title. Back when he did it in 1999, I suppose it could be explained away as a sub-plot at the time to enrich the ongoing Triple-H/Stone Cold rivalry. In fact, only days later, McMahon opted to vacate the title to pave way for the first WWE "Six Pack Challenge."
