On the heels of the lackluster box office revenue for The Condemned, WWE said on Thursday that it will focus on direct-to-video releases instead of theatrical releases in the near future. The Hollywood Reporter has an article on this change.
WWE's The Condemned fell to #11 at the box office this weekend, earning $1 million (on a massive 73% drop) to bring its total gross to $5.97 million. At this point, the film is expected to be a flop and not break even. Obviously this movie will end up saying a lot about Steve Austin's drawing power as an action star. Meanwhile, Spider-Man 3 broke several box office records this weekend.
The Condemned played on 2,310 theaters this weekend, the same number as last weekend.
