WWE Vengeance opened with a video package covering the World title matches. Mike Rotundo and Barry Windham were introduced at ringside.
The opening match is Cade & Murdoch vs. The Hardys. The match was good. Cade and Murdoch were victorious after Cade pinned Jeff Hardy after blocking the swanton bomb and hitting a modified power bomb. Winners by pinfall: Cade and Murdoch.
An interview aired with Booker T and Sharmell where Booker talked about his past achievements. The cruiserweight title match is up next.
A video package of Eddie Guerrero winning the WWE title from Brock Lesnar was shown. When they came back from the clip, the audience was chanting “Eddie”.
Chavo Guerrero vs. Jimmy Wang Yang: Former cruiserweight champion Dean Malenko is shown watching the match from a monitor in the back. Another good match, crowd got more into it as it went on. Guerrero defeated Yang after a frog splash from the top: Winner by pinfall: Chavo Guererro.
The video of Vince McMahon walking to the limo before it blew up two weeks ago on Raw was aired with Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross speculating that McMahon may have suspected something was up before he got in the limo. Some fans started singing ‘Na Na Na Na, hey hey hey, goodbye” after the video was aired. Fans clearly aren’t buying this angle.
Bobby Lashley was interviewed backstage. He basically just said that he wished Vince McMahon was here tonight just to see McMahon’s face after he wins the WWE title.
Chris Benoit vs. CM Punk for the vacant ECW title is up next. Johnny Nitro was named as Chris Benoit's replacement. As reporter earlier, Benoit had to miss the event due to personal reasons. Fans started chanting “We Want Benoit” early in the match. Johnny Nitro pinned CM Punk after a neckbreaker to win the ECW title. The ECW title is officially dead. The match itself wasn’t bad, but the crowd wasn’t into it from the beginning which hurt it. Winner by pinfall: Johnny Nitro.
A recap of the classic Shawn Michaels – Bret Hart iron man match was shown from WrestleMania 12. Mick Foley and Randy Orton were shown backstage and Orton warned Foley after his match with Umaga on Raw. Foley reminded Orton of what he is capable of and Orton reminded Foley of him beating Foley the last time they met.
Former Intercontinental champion Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat was introduced to the audience. Santino Marella vs. Umaga is up next. Marella defeated Umaga via disqualification when Umaga kept kicking Marella in the head and ignored the referee’s count to stop. Umaga continued to beat on Marella after the match, including hitting Marella with a splash from the top rope and then hitting Marella with the Samoan spike. Fans clearly aren’t into Marella as they cheered Umaga beating down Marella after the match and were chanting ‘One More Time’ after Umaga hit Marella with the Samoan spike. Winner by disqualification: Santino Marella.
