Regarding the decision to offer an apology due to Matt Striker's comments on the death of Steve Irwin, the company received a number of complaints from viewers and Vince "didn't want the headache nor the mainstream media lambasting him." He thought that if he apologized, no story would develop and the controversy would go away. In the past, he would have gone in the opposite direction, but he's in a different situation now where the company is careful to not do anything that would make the advertisers on the show feel uncomfortable. Also, the only place in which the comments were edited out was in Irwin's native Australia.
