Indy Wrestler Airlifted To Hospital After 'Tournament Of Death'

Combat Zone Wrestling wrestler and former champ Nick Gage was seriously injured yesterday while competing in the promotion's 8th annual Tournament of Death and needed to be airlifted via helicopter. Wrestling in the semi-finals against Moxley in a match featuring light tubes surrounding the ring in the ropes, Gage was stabbed in his underarm, which severed two arteries and led to an insane amount of blood loss. Incredibly, Gage wanted to continue the bout. The match was officially titled a "Light tubes, panes of glass, and all the other s–t in the back we could find match."

An ambulance was called to the event, which was being held on the farmland owned by the family of CZW wrestler DJ Hyde and eventually Gage was taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery to repair the wound. He was conscious when they took him away and apologized to fans for not completing the tournament. He was being held overnight for observation. Police arrived and were apparently questioning people.

CZW was founded in Philadelphia, PA in 1999 and became known for their "ultra-violent" form of wrestling along with high-flyers. They are famous for using fluorescent light tubes as weapons in wrestling matches. Other over-the-top items used in matches include weed whackers and hooks hanging from the ceiling. The company started out with only four wrestlers, all trained by the owner, and Gage is one of them.
