Sheamus took the early advantage until Cena reversed an irish whip and clotheslined Sheamus. It was short-lived, as Sheamus was able to use the cage to his advantage first, throwing Cena face first into the steel. The crowd is pretty quiet in this match, especially while Sheamus is on offense.

Cena was able to gain the advantage after suplexing Sheamus from the top rope. Cena went for the cover, but only got two. Sheamus quickly DDTd Cena to regain the advantage. A "Cena" chant broke out as Sheamus continued his assault on the challenger. The crowd remains really silent, like it's a divas match or something. It seems like the RAW ladder match sucked the wind out of the crowd.

Sheamus locked in a sleeper hold. Just as Cena looked like he was going to break out, Sheamus took Cena to the ground and locked in a body scissors to go with the sleeper. Cena rolled to his front and then got to his feet with Sheamus on his back and went to the corner. Cena started climbing the ropes with Sheamus on his back and made it to the top rope. Sheamus jumped off and clipped Cena's leg, knocking Cena to the canvas. Sheamus went for the cover and got two.

Sheamus continued to dominate the match and tried to climb the cage, but was knocked off and to the mat. Cena then started to build momentum, and nailed Sheamus with a pair of shoulderblocks and the five knuckle shuffle. He went for the Attitude Adjustment near the cage, but Sheamus clung to the cage and started climbing out. They started duking it on the top rope. Cena slammed Sheamus' face in the cage and sent him to the mat. Cena went for the five knuckle shuffle from the top rope, but missed as the champion moved out of the way.

A dueling "Let's Go Sheamus/Let's Go Cena" chant broke out, with the "Let's Go Cena" chants beating out the "Let's Go Sheamus" chants. Sheamus tied Cena's arms in the ropes and used Cena as a stepping stone to climb out of the cage. Cena broke free and drove Sheamus face first into the mat from the top rope, but only got a two count. Cena went for AA, but Sheamus powered out and hit the Irish Curse. Sheamus followed up with a huge kick, but only got a two count.

Cena was finally able to surprise Sheamus and hit the AA out of nowhere, but only got a two count. The Nexus started to make their way to the ring, with Tarver carrying bolt cutters. A referee grabbed the bolt cutters and ran off. They started chasing down another ref for the keys, and the ref threw the keys into the crowd.

Back in the ring, Cena hit the AA, but the ref got knocked out in the process. Cena locked in the STF and Sheamus tapped, but the ref was knocked out. Cena started climbing over the top, but was met at the top of the cage by Justin Gabriel. Cena threw Gabriel in the cage and started to fight his way down. On the other wise, Sheamus started to climb out and knocked away Heath Slater to hit the floor first as Cena was fighting with the Nexus members on the other side.

Sheamus (c) defeated John Cena to retain the WWE Championship.
