WWE Capitol Punishment Opener:

We get a video package to open the show. This package highlights some of the main feuds heading into tonight. The video package opening the show was very impressive, with R-Truth cutting a promo. A little different from the standard WWE PPV opening.

The pyro hits and Michael Cole wishes us a Happy Father's Day, as well as welcomes us to the PPV. Kofi Kingston's music hits, and it looks like the United States Championship match will be kicking things off tonight.

United States Championship
Kofi Kingston (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler

The bell rings and we're ready to begin. Both men lock up and trade holds for a bit before Kofi takes Ziggler down to the mat. It's not long before both men are back up and continuing the chain wrestling. Ziggler puts Kofi down with a shoulderblock, but Kofi comes back with a flying shoulderblock of his own. Ziggler comes back with a blow to the back of Kofi's head, but Kofi responds with a beautiful dropkick. Kofi goes into the corner to catch Dolph, and launches him out with a huge monkey flip. Kofi tries for the trouble in paradise but Ziggler counters, and follows up with a rocker dropper for a near fall.

Ziggler stomps away at Kofi and chokes him against the bottom rope. Kofi tries to fight back, and he's able to surprise Ziggler with a backslide, but Ziggler pops up and hits a dropkick for another two count. Ziggler stares down at a prone Kingston for a bit before connecting with a big elbow drop. Ziggler locks in a rear chin lock, trying to wear down Kofi.

Kofi fights out of it and catches Ziggler with a quick roll up, but Ziggler kicks out. Kofi is able to get another creative roll up but it's still not enough. Kingston goes for a splash in the corner but Ziggler moves and Kofi crashes into the turnbuckle before eating a big German suplex from Ziggler for another near fall. Ziggler locks in an arm bar but Kofi fights up to his feet and out of the hold fairly quickly. Ziggler tries for the sleeper but Kofi drops down to his butt to prevent the move. Ziggler goes for a splash in the corner and this time Kingston moves and Ziggler crashes and burns in the corner. Ziggler runs out into a series of big chops from Kofi, followed by a big dropkick. Kofi tries for the SOS but Ziggler counters. Kofi goes to the second rope and hits a cross body block across Ziggler's back, which is good for another two count.

Kingston psychs himself up and hits the boom drop to the delight of the crowd. Kofi goes for the trouble in paradise but Ziggler ducks it. Kofi goes for the SOS instead, connecting this time, but it's still not enough to keep Ziggler down for the three count. Ziggler catches Kofi in a small package but only gets two. Both men trade near falls. Kofi counters a rocker dropper into an almost powerbomb, which is countered into a roll up, which is countered into a double stomp by Kofi onto Ziggler, but it's still only enough for two. Kofi goes to the ring apron and then up to the top turnbuckle, but he's caught by Dolph.

Ziggler goes for a superplex, but Kingston fights him off and hits him with a front suplex from the top. Kingston hits a giant cross body, but he still can't keep Ziggler down for the count. Kofi picks Ziggler up and goes for the SOS again, but Ziggler counters into the sleeper. Kingston ducks into the corner and causes Ziggler's face to go crashing into the top turnbuckle. Kofi goes for trouble in paradise but misses. Ziggler goes for the Zig Zag, but Kingston counters by holding on to the ropes. Vickie uses a distraction to gouge Kofi's eyes and Ziggler locks in the sleeper, not letting Kofi get to the ropes. The referee calls for the bell as it looks like Kofi is out. He gets the belt and hands it to Dolph.
