Top Strikeforce Fighter Arrested; Fired

Strikeforce heavyweight Brett Rogers has been arrested on third-degree-assault charges. The charges stem from an altercation with his wife. His wife was "reportedly strangled, punched repeatedly in the head and face and lost a tooth in the struggle." Rogers was officially charged with assault in the third degree, domestic assault by strangulation and pattern of stalking conduct, which are all felony charges. He was also charged with endangerment of a child, a gross misdemeanor.

According to reports, Rogers' wife, "blacked out from being choked, suffered a golf ball sized wound on her face among smaller wounds." The couple's daughter had tried to intervene after she saw Rogers strike her mother. Rogers admitted to drinking before the argument broke out, claims his wife hit him first and he returned with force. Bail has been set at $100,000 and Rogers returns to court on Friday at 11AM.

UPDATE: UFC President Dana White announced after today's UFC 132 press conference that Brett Rogers has been released from his contract.

Rogers was arrested Wednesday on charges of assault and endangerment of a child after an altercation with his wife. The former top heavyweight contender finishes his Strikeforce run with a 2-3 record in the promotion, having lost his last three outings in the promotion.
