Wade Barrett is backstage with Matt Striker. Barrett says he proved tonight that the Barrett barrage is unstoppable. He says the reason he's here is because he want's to be England's first World Champion. He's interrupted by Miz and R-Truth. Barrett walks off in disgust. Miz says this is the problem, all the focus is everywhere but where it should be. Truth says the most charismatic tag team of all time is right here. He asks why he and Miz aren't on the side of buses. No, it's Rock and Cena. Truth says he saw all the pigeons staring up at the Rock and Cena, so he screamed at the pigeons that the Rock and Cena would lost tonight. He says the pigeons didn't say anything back to them, because they're pigeons, and they don't talk, all they do is crap. Miz says that's what Cena and Rock are, a load of crap. Truth says tonight, crap is gonna get got.
- We get a video package that details the history between CM Punk and Del Rio over the past few months, leading into our next match.
- Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. CM Punk
Ricardo Rodriguez is out first to introduce the WWE Champion. Del Rio comes out to the ring in a beautiful Aston Martin red convertible (not the most practical choice for NYC in November).
The crowd is chanting for Punk before Del Rio's music even hits. Apparently, Punk has a personal ring announcer for the evening as well, WWE Hall of Famer, Howard Finkel. The Fink makes his way out from the back to a big pop from the crowd. The crowd is actually chanting for the Fink! Howard finally makes the announcement, and it's amazing! Punk comes out to a huge pop from the crowd. Punk shakes hands and gives a little hug to Fink before heading down to the ring.
The bell rings, and we're ready to kick things off. Cole mentions that MSG has seen the WWE Championship change hands 15 times. The crowd chants that they want ice cream. We get a lock up and both men end up tangled in the ropes. It's broken up by the ref. We get another lock up and Punk locks in a side head lock. He's pushed off but comes right back with a big shoulder block. Another lock up and Del Rio takes Punk over with a side head lock. 'Colt Cabana' chant from the crowd! Punk pushes Del Rio off but falls to a shoulder block. Punk responds with an arm drag, holding on and locking in an arm bar.
Punk continues to work over the arm, stomping at his shoulder. Punk locks in another head lock, and Punk hits another shoulder block. Punk takes Del Rio over with another arm drag. Punk teases the anaconda vice and Del Rio bails to the outside where he consults with Ricardo. Del Rio heads back into the ring and locks up with Punk again, backing him into the corner and catching him with a kick to the stomach. Del Rio beats on Punk in the corner until he's pulled away by the ref. Punk avoids a charging Del Rio in the corner and stomps away at him. Punk sends Del Rio across the ring and hits a big hip toss, then a dropkick, and Del Rio bails again. Punk doesn't wait this time, hitting a suicide dive through the ropes.
Punk goes to the top and launches himself off with a big cross body, before continuing the work on Del Rio's arm. Del Rio is able to fight out of the hold and send Punk into the ropes, where he beats away on him. The ref pulls Del Rio away and Ricardo gets in a cheap shot. Punk chases Ricardo around the ring, but he's caught with a dropkick through the ropes by Del Rio. Del Rio heads out and slams Punk's hand and arm into the ring steps before sending Punk back into the ring.
