- Hercules starring The Rock pulled in $29 million over the weekend, which put it in second place behind Lucy. It beat studio estimates, and brought in another $28.7 million overseas. It will open in several other countries this weekend, including Finland, India, Netherlands, Norway and Portugal. Paramount's head of domestic marketing and distribution Megan Colligan told The Associated Press that the film's opening reaffirmed The Rock's appeal with the audience.
"He can be very serious and menacing and imposing, and he has this ability to melt it all away, which is why women show up for a movie like this," Colligan said. "He has a lot of appeal for kids."
