Big UFC Stars Talk About CM Punk's UFC Debut, How They Feel About His Move To MMA, More

CM Punk's mixed martial arts debut has been highly anticipated by fans, foes and the like for over a year, since his UFC signing was announced in late 2014. However, due to an injury, Punk's debut was delayed, and won't happen until 2016.

On this week's episode of UFC Tonight, UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier, and former featherweight contender Kenny Florian shared their feelings about Punk's move to the UFC.

"I'm the big wrestling guy on the set. As time is passing, it starts to lose some of the intrigue. I think the iron was hot when he first walked out on the WWE and that's when he would have made the biggest impression on the MMA community because WWE fans would have followed him to MMA," Cormier said.

Florian questioned Punk's level of skill, and noted that MMA isn't something you can just jump in to. He also wondered aloud about Punk's level of preparation. Punk has been training with Roufusport in Milwaukee since February.

"This is what really concerns me because they said he was going to fight in 2015. That he needs some time to train. Well, that hasn't happened. I know he has dealt with some other injuries and things like that. The fact that they say that he's not ready concerns me. It shows that, listen, you don't just jump into this sport and say you're going to compete. It takes time and there's a process. There's a reason why they're telling him to take his time. I think his training isn't coming along as fast as they thought and it's unfortunate," Florian said.
