Conor McGregor Submitted By Nate Diaz At UFC 196

Conor McGregor really didn't have much to lose. The reigning UFC Featherweight Champion, he was already slated to jump up ten pounds to compete for the UFC Lightweight Championship before Rafael dos Anjos withdrew. That was bumped up to twenty-five pounds when Nate Diaz stepped in on ten days' notice.

A loss would mean a small hit to McGregor's popularity, and give some of his detractors ammo. A win would put him into a different stratosphere, as it's unheard of in combat sports to make a 25 pound jump to fight just months after winning a championship.

The night already saw one giant moment, and the world was guaranteed to see another. Either McGregor loses, or a 145 pounder wins at 170.

The former occured. Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor threw down in an absolute war. Size proved to be a major obstacle for Conor McGregor, as closing the distance was too much for McGregor. In the second round Diaz staggered McGregor before submitting him with a rear naked choke at 4:12 of round 2.

Afterwards, both men were respectful of each other after a major war of words. Two men, ten day's notice, and another major shocker in the biggest surprise card possibly ever in the UFC.
