As if this weekend weren't wild enough between combat sports events and news, it just got a little heavier. According to a Jeremy Botter of FloCombat, CM Punk's first UFC fight is targeted for UFC 202 on August 20 in Las Vegas.
Botter, who was none too happy about the ban of MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani, took to Twitter to mention the bout was targeted for the undercard of the Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor headlined show. Botter mentioned that he hoped he 'didn't ruin any plans.' Punk will face Mickey Gall in the fight.
Oh. And CM Punk vs. Mickey Gall is targeted for August 20. Same night as Diaz/McGregor. Hope I didn't ruin any announcements.— Jeremy Botter (@jeremybotter) June 6, 2016
Punk signed with the UFC in November 2014, and started training at Roufusport in Milwaukee in February 2015. Punk was sidelined earlier this year with a back injury that pushed back the fight several months.
