NJPW G1 Climax 26 Day 8 Results (7/30): Omega Vs. Elgin, Naito Vs. Shibata, Nagata Vs. Nakajima

NEW JAPAN PRO WRESTLING G1 CLIMAX 26

Aichi Pref. Gymnasium

Airing on NJPWworld.com

After a day off for all 20 G1 participants. They are back for the start of three straight G1 events that will take them to the halfway point of this tournament. Today marks the eighth of nineteen overall G1 events. This event featured the 4th slate of B block matches.

The Undercard

RYUSUKE TAGUCHI DEFEATED DAVID FINLAY IN 7:58

Taguchi got the victory with his Dodon finish. Not much to state here except for the fact that the 24 year old son of Fit Finlay, David has looked good in his limited duty on the under cards of these G1 events. He hasn't won yet but this is a good experience for someone as young as he is in the business.

BAD LUCK FALE, TAMA TONGA & YUJIRO TAKAHASHI DEFEATED SATOSHI KOJIMA, MANABU NAKANISHI & CAPTAIN NEW JAPAN IN 7:10

Predictable finish here with The Bullet Club prevailing against any team that has Captain New Japan on it. NJPW is world renowned for it's high caliber in ring action but there is quite a bit of comedy on these shows to create variety. Yujiro won for the club with the pimp juice on the Captain. At this point, his partners should never tag him in or injure him prior to the match. Maybe when he is finally paired up with a heel team.

SANADA & BUSHI DEFEATED KUSHIDA & JUICE ROBINSON IN 9:01

Another heel faction in Los Ingobernables gets the victory. SANADA got his skull end finish on the former CJ Parker, Juice Robinson to end this match.

HIROSHI TANAHASHI, HIROYOSHI TENZAN, TOGI MAKABE, JUSHIN THUNDER LIGER & TIGER MASK DEFEATED KAZUCHIKA OKADA, TOMOHIRO ISHII, HIROOKI GOTO, GEDO & NAOMUCHI MARUFUJI IN 10:44

Star studded 10 man tag with many of the participants in tomorrow's A block matches. Tiger Mask won this match for his team with a reverse double arm bar on Gedo. You would figure that because of his injuries, Tanahashi would be left off of these undercard matches to get an extra day of rest but no special treatment here for the Ace of the promotion and Japan's biggest star. In 10 man tags, He is not required to work as much and he is a draw for all these shows.

G1 TOURNAMENT

B BLOCK MATCHES

TORU YANO DEFEATED TOMOAKI HONMA IN 4:21

It finally happened as it does every year in the G1. Yano found a way to be spoiler yet again in this tournament. The story of every Yano match is how he blatantly cheats and looks for the cheap victory in any way he can. No exception here as Toru Yano pulled his usual antics. He came into today winless but gets his first win with a backslide on Honma.

YOSHI-HASHI DEFEATED KING OF DARKNESS EVIL IN 12:48

Yoshi-Hashi beats Evil with his karma finish. Good back and forth match. Hashi plays the underdog very well and he did so in this match. Everytime The king of darkness thought he had Yoshi-Hashi beat, He would somehow manage to survive. He rallied late and picked up 2 points.

KATSUHIKO NAKAJIMA DEFEATED YUJI NAGATA IN 12:32

The Japanese wrestling legend, Yuji Nagata came in this match unbeaten thus far in the G1. The NOAH star, Nakajima put an end to his winning streak tonight. Evenly contested bout between these two. Credit to Nagata's toughness and stamina for being able to have these long physical matches at the age of 48. Katsuhiko seemed to be one step ahead of him in the entire match and it ends when he hits his vertical spike for the victory.

MICHAEL ELGIN DEFEATED KENNY OMEGA IN 16:44

This was a rematch from NJPW's Dominion show last month where Elgin defeated Omega for the IWGP Intercontinental title. No ladder this time but this was a heck of a match. One of the best thus far in this tournament. Elgin won this one with his Elgin Bomb in nearly 17 minutes. It was a good clash of styles and these two mesh well together. Despite being a heel, Omega was set up to get some cheers in this one and The Cleaner can be a very entertaining act.

KATSUYORI SHIBATA DEFEATED TETSUYA NAITO IN 19:24

Back to back terrific matches to end tonight's event. Shibata gets a huge win here by choking out Naito in a sleeper hold. Ref had to stop this one because Naito passed out. This was a physical match. Shibata is one of wrestling' best strikers and that was on display for nearly 20 minutes in this match. Both men at now 2 and 2 in the G1 with 4 points each.
