Shinsuke Nakamura Talks Meeting Vince McMahon, Thinking John Cena Was Just "A Muscle Guy" At First

On episode 269 of Talk Is Jericho, NXT's Shinsuke Nakamura talked about meeting WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and looking forward to working with 15-time world champion John Cena.

Nakamura said he first met McMahon when he traveled to WWE headquarters in Connecticut to sign his WWE contract. While 'The King Of Strong Style' was a little bit nervous to meet McMahon, Nakamura recalled that McMahon was the first person to greet him after his NXT debut at TakeOver: Dallas.

"Ah, so when contracted with WWE at the headquarters in Connecticut, I met him." Nakamura continued, "I was surprised, after my debut with Sami Zayn at TakeOver: Dallas, after the match I just came back from the ramp, then, first guy I shake hands [with] was Vince. 'Oh, oh, you watched my match?'"

When asked who he is most looking forward to working in WWE, Nakamura named Cena. Nakamura admitted that he thought Cena was "a typical American wrestler" before coming to WWE, meaning he thought Cena was no more than "a muscle guy" with a hip hop DJ gimmick.

"Maybe John Cena, yeah. I imagined before coming to WWE, maybe John Cena is a typical American wrestler, I thought. But I came [to] WWE and changed [my opinion]. I just want to feel him, yeah, in the ring."
