The quarterfinals of the WWE Cruiserweight Classic kicked off tonight with Gran Metalik defeating Akira Tozawa and Kota Ibushi defeating Brian Kendrick to advance to the Final Four.

Metalik will go on to face the winner of Zack Sabre, Jr. vs. Noam Dar and Ibushi will face the winner of Rich Swann vs. TJ Perkins. Both ZSJ vs. Dar and Swann vs. TJP will air on next Wednesday's episode.

The CWC finale airs live on Wednesday, September 14th from Full Sail University with Metalik vs. ZSJ or Dar and Ibushi vs. Swann or TJP, plus the finals.

In the video below, Ibushi is checked out by a WWE trainer after his match:

This video features Andrea D'Marco talking to Kendrick after the loss. CWC commentator and good friend Daniel Bryan approaches and they embrace. Bryan talks about meeting Kendrick at Shawn Michaels' wrestling school and gets emotional when giving Kendrick credit for the wrestler he became. Bryan says he doesn't care if Kendrick lost, Kendrick was the best. Kendrick hopes Ibushi wins the whole thing because with Bryan retired, he believes Ibushi is the best wrestler in the world.
