Triple H On If He Wants A Match With Kurt Angle, How Angle Was Cleared So Quickly Before WWE TLC

WrestlingInc.com owner Raj Giri was on a media conference call with Triple H on Thursday to promote Saturday's NXT TakeOver: WarGames event. Giri asked him about his thoughts on Kurt Angle's in-ring return and the chances of them facing off against each other in the near future.

Angle's return to the ring last month at the TLC pay-per-view was originally believed to be a one-off deal, but Angle is gearing up to lead Team RAW against Team SmackDown at Survivor Series on Sunday. Angle was filling in for Roman Reigns, who was sick with a viral infection, when he teamed with Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose to defeat The Miz, Braun Strowman, Kane, Sheamus and Cesaro. Triple H explained that it was a happy accident that Angle was ready to step in on short-notice.

"I think it's awesome that Kurt's back in the ring. When Kurt first came back to the company we said let's take it one step at a time and see where things go. It's funny that we had just started the process of taking Kurt through the medical and making sure he was healthy and all those things," he said. "Coincidentally, it ended up being completely a coincidence that Kurt and I had a conversation that started that process and then all of a sudden there was this opportunity and a need, and his results had just come in, so it just was a great coincidence in some ways."

Triple H said he's happy for Angle and the job he's done since returning to the WWE in April after 11 years away from the company.

"I'm excited to see it, I'm happy for Kurt," he said. "To see where he's at in his life, and see the turnaround that he's had, and for him to come back home and get the response he has and have moments like he's having right now, it's awesome."

Ever since he returned, many speculated that Angle and Triple H would eventually meet each other in the ring. As the last active remnants of the Attitude Era, it made sense for them to work a program together. The road for an eventual showdown was paved on RAW this past Monday, when Triple H attacked Angle's (kayfabe) son Jason Jordan and took his spot on Team RAW. Triple H said if the timing is right he would love to have a match with Angle, who he considers one of the best wrestlers ever to work in the WWE.

"Would I love to get in the ring with Kurt and do something with Kurt? Absolutely," Triple H said. "If it's right, if it's right for everybody, if he continues to want to stay in the ring, if I do [too], if it's right for everybody, absolutely. Kurt's one of the best ever. I don't know that I've ever seen anybody pick it up as fast and become so good so fast, as Kurt."
