UFC Heavyweight Fight With Possible Title Implications Set For UFC 168

According to a report published in the Las Vegas Review Journal and confirmed by the UFC, heavyweight fighters Josh Barnett (33-6) and Travis Browne (15-1) are set to fight at UFC 168 this December.

After suffering his first professional loss last year to Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva, Browne has rebounded with two straight first-round knockouts over Gabriel Gonzaga and Alistair Overeem. Barnett recently made good on his return to the UFC after an eleven-year absence, earning a first-round TKO over Frank Mir. That win put Barnett on his own two-fight win streak after dropping a decision Daniel Cormier last year.

With Cormier eyeing a drop to light heavyweight, the winner of Barnett-Brown will likely end up with Fabricio Werdum on the short list of potential heavyweight title challengers. Current heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and former champ Junior dos Santos are set to dispute the belt in a rubber match on October 19.

UFC 168 is expected to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 28. Acting as the promotion's traditional New Year's Eve blowout, the card will also feature the high-profile rematch between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman, as well as a hyped-up women's bantamweight title fight between Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate.
