UFC Heavyweight Set To File Official Complaint With Athletic Commission

Former Olympic wrestler Daniel Cormier (12-0) will face Roy Nelson (19-8) next month at UFC 166 in what is likely to be his last bout at heavyweight before dropping down to pursue contendership at light heavyweight.

According to UFC correspondent Ariel Helwani, Cormier is making good on an offhanded comment he made in discussing the bout some months ago, as he plans to file an official complaint with the athletic commission overseeing the event regarding Nelson's comically large trademark beard.

"Daniel Cormier told me yesterday, he's going to officially file a complaint with the Texas commission to have Nelson shave his beard," Helwani revealed. "He wants it off. Roy Nelson said that if this beard gives me an unfair advantage, maybe Cormier should have had a beard when he failed in the Olympics in 2008 and 2004. It remains to be seen if it'll happen."

Cormier and a potentially beardless Nelson will do battle on October 19 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. At the top of the UFC 166 card, UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will attempt to defend his title in a rubber match against former champ Junior dos Santos.
