AEW Dark Recap (7/7): Lucha Bros Back In Action, Brian Pillman Jr. Makes His AEW Debut

Excalibur and Taz welcome us to another edition of AEW Dark. Taz is wearing a new t-shirt that is now being sold on Pro Wrestling Tees and the AEW shop store.

Flying Brian Pillman Jr. makes his way to the ring for our opening contest. He'll be taking on Shawn Spears, who is accompanied as always by Tully Blanchard. Blanchard is wearing a mask near ringside.

Brian Pillman Jr. versus Shawn Spears

Tie-up. Pillman evades Spears charge and sends him into the turnbuckles. Second tie-up...Spears applies a wristlock and brings Pillman to the mat. Pillman shows off his athleticism and boots Spears in the face to break the hold. They reset. Spears traps Pillman in the corner and unloads with a huge chop. To a different corner...another chop. This wakes Pillman up...he unloads a flurry of strikes. Pillman misses a dropkick but hits a second one moments later to send Spears to the outside. Blanchard and Spears chat. Back in the ring...Spears takes control by drop kicking Pillman out of the air off a springboard attempt. He stomps Pillman on the outside, including across the head. He brings the action back inside and begins choking Pillman until the referee breaks it up. Pillman builds some momentum...corner lariat connects. He goes for a springboard moonsault but Spears moves. Spears picks Pillman up...DVD. That'll do it.

Shawn Spears wins by pinfall

Post match Spears lays Pillman out with the metal slug tucked away in his signature black glove. He and Blanchard leave an unconscious Pillman in the ring.

Women's division action is next. Rache Chanel is out first, followed by her opponent...Big Swole.

Rache Chanel versus Big Swole

Tie-up but neither woman can gain the advantage. Chanel forces Swole into the turnbuckles, then taunts instead of attacks. Swole grabs a headlock...Chanel attempts to break free but Swole uses her power to keep the hold applied. Takedown from Swole...Chanel bounces her off the ropes and taunts once again. Swole goes for the discus lariat but Chanel immediately flees to the outside. Back in the ring Swole runs through Chanel with a shoulder block. Chanel dumps Swole to the apron, then hits a swinging neckbreaker through the ropes. Modified octopus stretch from Chanel...Swole uses a boot and Chanel is forced to release the submission. She quickly recovers and slows Swole down with a rear-naked choke. Swole struggles to get to her feet...this leads to a back and forth striking exchange, which wakes Swole up. She rocks Chanel with a stiff headbutt. Britt Baker is spotted in the crowd...she and Swole have some words before Swole plants Chanel with a blue-thunder bomb, followed by the dirty dancing strike and a pump kick for the victory.

Big Swole wins by pinfall

Cut to an interview backstage with Allie and Brandi Rhodes. Alex Marvez reminds the women that Fight for the Fallen is right around the corner, and this time last year they were facing each other. The girls argue about their recent tag success, with both claiming that they are the reason for said success. Dustin Rhodes walks on camera and tells Allie he sees right through her, and for them to push their differences aside and continue working as a team.

Next out is hardcore legend Luther. He'll be going one-on-one with SCU's Frankie Kazarian. Christopher Daniels and Scorpio Sky accompany thier partner to the ring.

Luther versus Frankie Kazarian

Tie-up. Neither man can gain their footing and the referee forces them to separate. Second tie-up....Kazarian takes Luther down with a pair of arm-drags. Luther answers back with big right hands. Kazaria catches Luther in an ugly looking frankensteiner. Luther takes advantage of a momentary hesitation by Kazarian and hits a pop-up knee, followed by a spinning heel kick. Double-underhook suplex from Luther. He keeps the pressure on Kazarian by choking him in the corner with his foot. Cover...Kazarian kicks out at one. Luther can't believe it...this gives Kazarian the opening to throw some big right hands. Huge combo from Kazarian takes Luther off his feet. Lariat and running forearm take Luther down again. Kazarian gets to the apron and hits an enziguri, then pops over for a crucifix pin for a nearfall. Luther shakes it off and connects with a pump kick...Kazarian gives him a boot right back...he climbs Luther's shoulders and transitions into a victory roll for the pinfall...got em!

Frankie Kazarian wins by pinfall

Eight-man tag action is next. Tony Donati, Faboo Andre, Joe Alonzo, and Brady Pierce are out first. The Butcher and The Blade and the Lucha Bros are second.

Tony Donati/Faboo Andre/Joe Alonzo/Brady Pierce versus The Butcher and The Blade/Lucha Bros

Pentagon Jr. and Donati begin. Pentagon nails a superkick to take the early advantage. Huge chop across Donati's chest. Fenix tags in...double team on Donati. They bring in Blade who shoves Donati to his team's corner so he can tag in Alonzo. Blade takes him right down, then tags in Butcher for some tandem offense. Repeated corner lariats, followed by a huge uranagi from Butcher. All eight men get in the ring, with the Lucha Bros and Butcher and Blade clearly dominating. They get the quick win after a suplex/lungblower/double-stomp combination.

Out next for singles-action is Will Hobbs, who is making his AEW debut. He'll be taking on Orange Cassidy. The Best Friends escort Cassidy to the ring.

Cassidy begins with his hands in his pockets. Hobbs charges for a lariat...Cassidy evades and nails a superman punch. IT'S OVER.

Orange Cassidy wins by pinfall

Our next bout will be between Shawn Dean and Michael Nakazawa.

Shawn Dean versus Michael Nakazawa

Tie-up. Nakazawa grabs the wrist...Dean switches the pressure into a hammerlock. Nakazawa reveals his body oil and uses it to break through Dean's grip. He runs through Dean with a shoulder block but Dean immediately retakes control with a dropkick, followed by a sliding lariat for a nearfall. Suplex attempt...Nakazawa goes to grab his oil again but referee Aubrey Edwards grabs it and tosses it into the stands. Dean hits a snap-suplex for a close two. Nakazawa pops right up and spears Dean. He climbs to the top...diving shoulder tackle. He goes to use the throng claw...Dean dodges and nails a TKO and a lungblower. Dean bounces off the rope...Nakazawa catches him in an abdominal stretch, then uses the thong claw along with an STO for the pinfall victory.

Michael Nakazawa wins by pinfall

Serpentico makes his way out next. He takes on SCU's Scorpio Sky. Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian also accompany Sky to the ring much like they did for Kazarian earlier in the night.

Serpentico versus Scorpio Sky

Sky dodges a dive from Serpentico to start. Tie-up...Sky picks the ankle and applies a rear headlock but Serpentico reverses the pressure...fast back and forth action ends with Serpentico chopping Sky across the chest. Sky gives one right back, then follows up with a Russian leg-sweep for an early nearfall. Sky hits a backbreaker, then continues to bend Serpentico over his knee for added pain. Deep chinlock from Sky...Serpentico goes to suplex Sky but he lands on his feet...after a series of counters Serpentico sends Sky to ringside with a frankensteiner. He stays in pursuit and whips Sky hard into the steel barricade. Back in the ring Serpentico hits a snapmare and a series of running attacks. Sky tries to build up a comeback but Serpentico derails that with a single-leg dropkick. Serpentico climbs to the top and connects with a knee across Sky's face. He tries a suplex...Sky blocks it...Serpentico makes him pay with a series of forearms. Serpentico goes for another suplex but Sky reverses it into a brainbuster. Running elbow...another one. Sky rocks Serpentico with a huge knee, then rolls him through and lands a neckbreaker. Serpentico manages to regain the advantage and uses the ropes to hit a double-stomp across Sky's gut. Superkick and low-DDT for another close nearfall. Sky goes for the TKO...Serpentico has it scouted and hits a thrust knee. He climbs...Sky avoids it and catches Serpentico with the TKO. That'll do it.

Scorpio Sky wins by pinfall

Main event time. Brandon Cutler and Peter Avalon team up once again. They'll be facing The Dark Order's Stu Grayson and Evil Uno. Here we go.

Brandon Cutler/Peter Avalon versus Dark Order

Avalon and Uno begin. Avalon lays down so Uno can get the pin but he cradles him for a close two. Uno unloads strikes onto Avalon, then tags in Grayson who lays into Avalon with stiff uppercuts. Cutler blindly tags in...he and Avalon show off some new tandem tag team maneuvers. Cutler goes for a spingboard maneuver but Grayson catches him in air and hits a vicious uranagi. Uno and Grayson take turns throwing each other into Cutler as he lay in the corner. Grayson uses the ropes to hit a springboard elbow onto Cutler who was on the apron. Cutler counters a powerbomb into a sunset flip but Grayson regains his footing and hits a running knee to the face. Cutler finally mounts an offensive manuever and tags in Avalon, who runs through the Dark Order with quick dropkicks and a flurry of strikes. Enziguri to Uno. Avalon with a rope-assisted moonsault. Leva Bates grabs Grayson's ankle coming off the ropes. Avalon takes advantage and takes Grayson out with a tope. The rest of the Dark Order go after Bates but Cutler comes out of nowhere with a springboard senton. Back in the ring...Grayson separates Cutler and Avalon away from each other, then hits a sit-out powerbomb onto Avalon. Running knee and torture rack backbreaker gets the Dark Order the win.

The Dark Order celebrate in the ring. Excalibur and Taz hype tomorrow's AEW Fyter Fest night two.
