UFC Fight Night 29 Bonuses Rewarded, Fighter Denied Award And Is Under Review By Commission

UFC Fight Night 29: Maia vs. Shields is now in the books and the standout fighters from the night have taken home their performance bonus checks, this time in the amount of $50,000.

Bantamweights TJ Dillashaw and Raphael Assuncao took home Fight of the Night honors for their three-round battle. In the end, Assuncao got the nod in a split decision. Knockout of the Night went to Dong Hyun Kim for his second-round defeat of Erick Silva. Submission of the Night was going to be awarded to Rousimar Palhares for his 31-second heel hook win over Mike Pierce; the UFC revealed via Twitter that Palhares will not be awarded the bonus due to "unsportsmanlike conduct."

Notorious in both MMA and pure grappling competition for holding onto submissions for too long, Palhares cranked on the heel hook well past the point that Pierce tapped out. Though Pierce was screaming in pain by the time the referee was able to separate the fighters, the fighter's trainer told MMAJunkie.com that he doesn't appear to have suffered any serious damage.

He also told MMAJunkie that the Comissao Atletica Brasileira de MMA (Brazil's regulating body for MMA) is currently reviewing fight footage to determine whether or not Palhares held the submission for too long.
