Fighters React To Jose Aldo Pulling Out Of UFC 189, Strange UFC Ratings, UFC Drug Test News
- The UFC experienced a weird ratings trend last Saturday for UFC Fight Night 70. While the Yoel Romero vs. Lyoto Machida was a highly anticipated fight that did 909,000 viewers, it was actually lower than that of a preliminary fight between two relatively unknown fighters.
Alex Oliveira vs. Joe Merritt did 966,000 viewers, Dave Meltzer of MMA Fighting reports. The main event is also down from UFC Fight Night 68's 950,000, but is still a strong number considering the rest of the card. The Fox Sports 2 prelims averaged 223,000 viewers.
- The UFC's stringent new drug testing policy kicks off today, with random, mandatory and unannounced drug testing being administered throughout the world.
The UFC and California State Athletic Commission weren't waiting around, however, as MMA Fighting's Marc Raimondi reports that almost every fighter on the upcoming UFC show in San Diego would be tested. All of the domestic competitors on the show had urine samples collected last week, and the international combatants will be tested when they arrive.
- Several fighters reacted on Twitter to UFC Featherweight Jose Aldo pulling out of UFC 189. You can see the Tweets below.
The McGregor hype train is getting derailed, let's go @chadmendes #TheRealMoneyTeam

Not all rib injuries are the same. Cannot compare Aldo's to anyone else's. We saw how tough he was vs Mendes, can't call that into question

Well honestly @chadmendes is an even worse matchup for The Irishmen.
? Erik Jon Koch (@NEWBREED04) July 1, 2015
Mende$ is a way different fight for the Irishman. Much tougher to game plan for. Just as Killashaw did, Mendes takes home Gold. #UFC189

When I had a interim title it just was some cool trophy to have. The interim title does not make you the champion
