A Lot Of Backstage Heat Erupted After Sheamus' First WWE Championship Win
By ROBERT GUNIER
In 2009, Sheamus faced John Cena in a tables match at the TLC PPV with the WWE Championship at stake, even though The Celtic Warrior had only been on WWE TV for 166 days. The audience was in shock after Sheamus put Cena through a table and crowned the first-ever Irish-born WWE Champion.
Such a massive opportunity bestowed upon a performer so early on in his main roster run bred jealousy from others in the locker room, and Sheamus noted that he was rejected behind the scenes because of this opportunity. He said, "There were a lot of people who were bitter about the situation that had happened [...] The thing is, when I won, there was heat!"
After Sheamus lost the WWE title in February 2010, he began feuding with the man who some have claimed was the catalyst for Sheamus' quick success — Triple H. The two became quick friends while working out together regularly, which according to some, was a factor that helped Sheamus be almost instantly elevated in the company.
