Hulk Hogan's Fist Helmet Was One Of His More Bizarre Pieces Of Wrestling Attire
By JON ALLRED
Following his decision to regain the WWF Championship after SummerSlam 1998, Hulk Hogan donned a War Bonnet helmet on a September 1998 promo, officially declaring war on WWF and starting with Ted DiBiase. Hogan said, "You're the first and foremost enemy I need to wipe out, dude."
Hogan wore the helmet for house show matches through the end of October, and there are various reasons behind the strange piece of attire. While Wrestling Observer reported that Hogan wore the helmet to allow WWF to sell replicas for Christmas, Hogan said the helmet was a compromise because Bad News Brown was reluctant to lose to him.
WWE producer Bruce Prichard revealed that Vince McMahon hated the helmet and didn't realize Hogan was doing promos with the helmet, gas tank, and license plate. The helmet and license plate were included as accessories for Hogan's action figure in Series 96 of Mattel's Elite Collection line.
