One Of Jericho's Major WCW Heel Moments Involved Beating Rey Mysterio With A Toolbox
By ELLA JAY
Chris Jericho started turning heel in the weeks leading up to his match with Rey Mysterio for the WCW Cruiserweight Championship at the Souled Out PPV on January 24, 1998. The match itself was full of high-flying action that ended with Mysterio tapping out to Jericho's Liontamer, making Y2J the new champion.
However, when the crowd began booing the newly-crowned Jericho, he snapped, saying, "Let me give you a reason to boo," and proceeded to stomp his opponent before throwing him outside to do more damage. Outside the ring, Jericho propped Mysterio against steel stairs, grabbed a toolbox, and rammed it into Mysterio's knee and leg.
This took Mysterio out of action and off of TV, solidifying Jericho's heel turn. Six months later, Mysterio surprised his rival with his return at Bash at the Beach and the returning star defeated Jericho to regain the title he had lost in January.
