Seth Rollins' Intercontinental Title Run Started With A Heated Request To Vince McMahon
By KEN HILL
After his WrestleMania 33 victory, everyone felt that Seth Rollins was ready for another world title run. However, Rollins wanted to spend 2017 pursuing the Intercontinental Championship, admitting on a podcast, "I really just loved the IC Title. I pitched to have that run," but Mr. McMahon wasn’t too pleased with this initiative.
"The Architect's" pitch for the IC Title run to Vince McMahon in mid-2017 drew the ire of the chairman, who questioned if Rollins had lost his "fire" and was drifting into the mid-card. Rollins recalls firing back, saying, "'Look man, just give me the ball and I'll take it to the house, but you have to give me the opportunity.'"
Rollins then clarified to McMahon that he worked up to that point in his WWE career and refused to take any guff when it came to an alleged lack of effort. Rollins argued, "'Give me a run as the IC Champion, let's work to get to Finn, Miz, and Seth at WrestleMania, give me the title and let me run with it as a babyface. The work rate will get me over, I promise you.'"
