Steve Austin Credits WWE HOFer For Helping Put Him On The Map
By SHAUN RANFT
Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin is one of the most recognizable names in professional wrestling, owing to the several championships he has held during his career. However, there’s another legend whom Austin credits with putting him on the map back when Austin wasn’t the legend he is today.
Austin notes, “Hanging out with Bret Hart, you know he was the guy that really helped put me on the map with the match at WrestleMania 13.” Hart and Austin had one of the most memorable matches of all time at the 1997 WrestleMania, when a bloodied Austin passed out due to “The Hitman’s” sharpshooter, and Hart took the win.
This feud between Austin and Hart earned the “Feud of the Year” distinction from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and Pro Wrestling Illustrated. “The Texas Rattlesnake” also credited Jim Ross for making his feud with Hart so impactful, thanks to “the way he called [Austin’s] Matches.”
