The Most Unexpected Heel Turns In AEW
By ERICA BANAS
Christian and Luchasaurus
After sharing an apparently positive mentor-trainee relationship with "Jungle Boy" Jack Perry, Christian Cage turned on Perry after the "Road Rager" edition, hitting him with a Killswitch and Con-Chair-To. Weeks later, Perry's longtime partner Luchasaurus also turned on him and aligned with Cage, although he had briefly sided back in the lead-up to All Out.
Serena Deeb
During what could have been Hikaru Shida's 50th win, veteran Serena Deeb turned heel, raking Shida's eyes. Deeb repeatedly slammed Shida's left knee into the mat, making her tap out to the Serenity Lock before grabbing Shida's anticipated trophy and clocking her in the head with it.
Will Hobbs
"Powerhouse" Will Hobbs turned heel for the first time on a November 2020 episode of "Dynamite" when he hit Cody with the FTW belly. Hobbs then stunned fans in July 2022 when he turned on his Team Taz stablemate Ricky Starks, attacking him while he was being interviewed in the ring and leading to the dissolution of Team Taz.
Anna Jay/Anna J.A.S.
The first of Anna Jay's two notable heel turns came in June 2020 when Dark Order members took Jay from the ring to Mr. Brodie Lee, who extended his hand to her. Two years later, Jay attacked Ruby Soho, who had been a face of the Dark Order, and proceeded to join the Jericho Appreciation Society, changing her name to Anna J.A.S.
Britt Baker made her heel turn in January 2020 by verbally attacking commentator Tony Schiavone for the brief time he worked at Starbucks, leaning into her new heel persona to get over with fans. Baker said, "That was all Kenny [Omega]'s idea to turn me heel. I was scared but, of course, I was going to do it."
