The legendary feud between John Cena and The Rock began with Cena questioning The Rock's love for wrestling, implying that he was just using WWE to catapult himself into Hollywood. The heat between Mr. Kennedy and John Cena came from a match the two had in 2007 in which Kennedy encouraged the fans to boo Cena. Jim Ross explained on his podcast, "Yeah it did ruffle Cena's feathers. Cena took it personally and thought, 'OK, enough is enough.'"

John Cena was apparently the reason behind Alex Riley's denied main event push following his turning on The Miz. Barrett claimed in 2011, "there are guys like John Cena who I don't get along with," and has reiterated in 2014 that they don't like each other.
