WWE Needs To Pull The Trigger On The Bray Wyatt Storyline
By ROSS W BERMAN IV
As a former WWE Champion, third-generation talent, and merchandising powerhouse, Bray Wyatt overshadowed the main event in October’s WWE Extreme Rules with his return. Since then, it’s been a bewilderingly slow journey that has led to very little for the former WWE Universal Champion.
Wyatt has spent much of his time talking a lot but saying nothing since his return — most of his television time has been spent telling viewers about his world, his headspace, and his Uncle Howdy, but none of it has led to much in-ring action. Wyatt has wrestled on television once upon returning, and as visually appealing as it may have been, there’s a stagnancy to Bray Wyatt, even though he moves so much merchandise and creates discourse.
Wyatt has only held the world title once, but he’s maintained a stranglehold on WWE merchandise sales, creating Firefly Funhouse and The Fiend. WWE has spent the past four months building up lore about Uncle Howdy and teasing a reunion with Alexa Bliss, all in the name of advertising for Mountain Dew Pitch Black.
Viewers remain in the same place with Wyatt that they were in October, wondering who Uncle Howdy is, whether Bliss is still spooky, and what the deal is with the puppets. None of these questions need to be answered, but WWE simply must do something — anything — with Bray Wyatt instead of doing nothing.
