Johny Hendricks Makes Weight On Second Attempt, Will Still Fight For Title At UFC 171

It was a tense situation today as Johny Hendricks missed weight this afternoon by 1.5 pounds for his UFC 171 main event fight against Robbie Lawler for the vacant UFC welterweight championship. While Hendricks would still have faced Lawler this Saturday in a five round tilt, he risked not being able to win the title if he didn't make weight on his second attempt. However, Lawler would still have been awarded the title if he beat Hendricks and Hendricks came in heavy.

"Nobody saw this coming," UFC President Dana White told FOX Sports. "He [Hendricks] didn't even see it coming, he was surprised."

After an additional two hours of weight cutting, Hendricks made weight and his fight against Lawler remains a championship bout. Make sure to join us this Saturday for our live coverage of UFC 171.
