AEW Dynamite New Year's Smash Results 12/31 - Two Championships On The Line, We Hear From MJF
Welcome to Wrestling Inc.'s results for "AEW Dynamite" New Year's Smash on December 31, 2025, coming to you live from the Liberty First Credit Union Arena in Omaha, Nebraska!
Mercedes Mone will be putting the TBS Championship on the line for the first time since retaining against Leila Grey during the December 6 episode of "AEW Collision" as she defends against one half of the AEW Women's World Tag Team Champions Willow Nightingale. Mone and Nightingale met one another in the ring at AEW Worlds End when Mone and reigning Ring of Honor Women's World Champion Athena were unsuccessful in dethroning Nightingale and her Babes of Wrath tag team partner Harley Cameron as AEW Women's World Tag Team Champions. In the moments that followed the match, Athena made it very clear to Mone that she was angered by their loss.
Ricochet will be making his first defense of the AEW National Championship on "Dynamite" tonight as he puts the title on the line against Jack Perry. Not only did Ricochet encounter Perry's Jurassic Express tag team partner Luchasaurus in the "Dynamite" Diamond Ring Battle Royal during the "Dynamite" and "Collision" Holiday Bash special (which he ultimately won along with Ring of honor World Champion Bandido), but Jurassic Express and JetSpeed's Kevin Knight and "Speedball" Mike Bailey" scored a win against Ricochet, his Demand stablemates Gates of Agony, and Josh Alexander of The Don Callis Family during the Worlds End Zero Hour Pre-Show.
Newly crowned AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley will be taking on Josh Alexander of The Don Callis Family in an AEW Continental Championship Eliminator Match, with the latter receiving a shot at Moxley's title in the event that he wins or the match goes to a 20 minute time limit draw. Moxley dethroned Kazuchika Okada as Continental Champion at Worlds End during the finals of the 2025 Continental Classic, defeating Alexander's stablemate Kyle Fletcher in the semifinals earlier that same night to earn the right to face Okada.
Additionally, MJF will be making an appearance on tonight's show after dethroning The Opps' Samoa Joe as AEW World Champion at Worlds End in a Four-Way match that also involved "Hangman" Adam Page and Swerve Strickland.
We are live! Excalibur and Tony Schiavone greet audiences at home before throwing it to a video recapping what went down at Worlds End.
We then head outside the arena and see MJF pull up. He then makes his way to the ring.
We Hear From MJF
MJF says while Swerve Strickland may be "The Franchise", Samoa Joe is "The Samoan Submission Machine" and Adam Page is "The Main Character" as the big three, he's still the new AEW World Champion. He throws down the belt, then unveils a second custom one made just for him. He says a lot of the fans around the world are upset with him and think it's not fair he's outclassed and outwitted all the fan favourites, then continues to gloat. He says he's better than everyone and they know it.
Kenny Omega appears on the jumbo screen and apologizes for interrupting MJF, but MJF made him feel a certain way. He says he hates the feeling that he's closer to the end of his career than the beginning, then says he's been asking himself what if he became AEW World Champion again. He says he's not collecting belts like he used to, but he's collecting one in the AEW World Championship whether he challenges next week or has to claw to the front of the line.
MJF says Omega wasn't man enough to say any of what he just said to his face, but Page's music hits and he appears in the crowd with a chain around his neck. Strickland's music then hits and he appears in another section of the crowd with a chain on his neck and Prince Nana. Page, Strickland, and Nana all make their way to the ring, but security holds them back as MJF says he's a professional wrestler. He says he believes wins and losses matter, then says Page and Strickland are both losers. He says if Page and Strickland earn themselves matches with wins, he'll let them have title shots. Page and Strickland then take out security guards in the ring after MJF leaves, attacking two of the guards. Page and Strickland use one of the chains to level one of the guards, then deliver a Buckshot Lariat and House Call to the guards and put MJF on notice.
Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs, and HOOK appear on the jumbo screen. Joe makes it clear he wants a rematch of his own for the AEW World Championship, then challenges Page and Strickland to a tag team match on behalf of HOOK and Hobbs. Page and Strickland agree, with Strickland upping the challenge to a No Disqualification Lights Out Match.
Toni Storm, Roderick Strong, and Orange Cassidy then make their way to the ring. Marina Shafir, Daniel Garcia, and Claudio Castagnoli of The Death Riders follow.
