WWE SummerSlam Sunday Results 8/2 - Four Titles On The Line, #1 Contenders Match & More

Roman Reigns will be putting his World Heavyweight Championship on the line for the first time since retaining against now-Bloodline stablemate Jacob Fatu in a Tribal Combat Match at WWE Clash in Italy on May 31 as he defends against his former Shield stablemate Seth Rollins. Rollins confronted Reigns on the June 29 episode of "WWE Raw", telling him that it was time for him to collect his World Heavyweight Championship as a verbal confrontation ensued between them. The two men have since found themselves involved in several more verbal altercations, with Solo Sikoa later offering his aid to Rollins on the July 20 episode of "Raw" which Rollins ultimately declined to accept.

With Women's Champion Rhea Ripley currently sidelined with an injury, a new Interim Women's Champion will be crowned as Jade Cargill, Women's United States Champion Tiffany Stratton, Chelsea Green, Lash Legend, and Charlotte Flair collide with one another in a Five-Way Ladder Match. All five women have won a series of qualifier matches over the last several weeks to secure their spots in tonight's match, with Stratton defeating Jacy Jayne of Fatal Influence on the July 17 episode of "WWE SmackDown" while Cargill defeated Nia Jax that same night via disqualification thanks to being attacked by Flair in the middle of her match. Cargill responded by attacking Flair the following Friday on July 24 in Flair's qualifier to hand her the win via disqualification against Nia Jax. Chelsea Green also defeated Kiana James on July 24, and Legend secured her spot when she emerged victorious against Giulia on this past Friday's edition of "SmackDown".

Baron Corbin will be taking part in his first televised WWE match since himself and former WWE star Apollo Crews (now known as Uhaa Nation) came up short to Los Garza on the August 30, 2024 episode of "SmackDown" as he challenges Trick Williams for his United States Championship. Not only will this mark Williams' first televised defense since retaining against Ricky Saints at WWE Night of Champions on June 27, but Corbin made his return to WWE on the July 10 episode of "SmackDown" when he caused a match between Williams and his former friend Carmelo Hayes to end in a no contest by interfering and leaving both men laid out.

Penta will be putting his Intercontinental Championship on the line on television for the first time since retaining against AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio on the June 8 episode of "Raw" as he defends against Chad Gable. Entering at spot six, Gable emerged victorious in a Number One Contenders Gauntlet Match against Dominik Mysterio, Joe Hendry, Je'Von Evans, Dragon Lee, Rusev, and Ethan Page on the July 13 episode of "Raw" to secure his title shot tonight. He subsequently joined forces with Penta in a winning effort against Page and Rusev the following week on the July 20 episode of "Raw".

Sami Zayn has made it abundantly clear that he felt unjustly dethroned as Undisputed WWE Champion by CM Punk just nine days after winning the title himself at Night of Champions. As a result, new "SmackDown" General Manager Adam Pearce made a Fatal Four-Way Match official on the July 24 between Finn Balor, Damian Priest, Royce Keys, and United States Champion Trick Williams on the July 24 episode of "Raw" to determine who Zayn would face in a Number One Contenders Match for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Balor was ultimately the man to emerge as the winner thanks to Jacob Fatu pulling Keys out of the ring as he pinned Priest and delivering a Hip Attack to him on the outside of the ring. Tonight, said Number One Contenders match is set to take place as Zayn and Balor go head-to-head with one another.

AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio will be colliding with Danhausen in a Human Monies on a Pole Match. Dominik and his Judgment Day stablemate JD McDonagh have taken issue with Danhausen over some money that Danhausen owed to them, with Danhausen scoring a win against McDonagh during the July 18 episode of "WWE Saturday Night's Main Event" in a No Disqualification thanks to some assistance from New York Knicks player Karl Anthony Towns.

We are live! Michael Cole and Corey Graves greet audiences at home as Finn Balor makes his way to the ring. Sami Zayn follows, but newly reinstated "SmackDown" General Manager Nick Aldis appears to announce he's decided to add a two more competitors in this match: GUNTHER and Kevin Owens. Both men then make their way out. 

The bell rings and Owens fires off stomps on Balor in the corner. GUNTHER pulls Owens off, but Owens delivers a clothesline to GUNTHER and a cannonball to Balor. He lands another cannonball on GUNTHER and hugs Zayn before Owens and Zayn exchange right hands with one another.

Owens delivers a cannonball to Zayn, then connects with a Swanton Bomb on GUNTHER off the top rope. He sets up for a stunner, but GUNTHER counters into a sleeper hold. Balor delivers his signature elbow drop to GUNTHER and pins him, but GUNTHER kicks out and Balor lands Sling Blades on him and Zayn. He lands a shotgun dropkick on Zayn to send him crashing into GUNTHER in the corner, then ascends to the top rope and looks to land a Coup De Grace on GUNTHER.

GUNTHER moves out of the way and powerbomb Balor, then goes for a pin but Balor kicks out. GUNTHER transitions into a Boston Crab, but Owens breaks the hold and fires off stomps on GUNTHER in the corner. Owens and Balor then teeter on the ropes, but Owens sends Balor crashing into the mat. Zayn dumps Owens out of the ring and pins Balor, but Balor kicks out and Zayn sits him on the top rope. Owens pushes Balor off the ropes and looks to deliver a Swanton Bomb on Zayn, but Zayn gets his knees up.

The referee checks on Owens as Zayn sets up for a Helluva Kick on him. GUNTHER intercepts Zayn with a sleeper, but Balor breaks the hold with a Coup De Grace off the top rope. Owens rocks GUNTHER with a superkick and delivers a Stunner to Balor, then lands a second one on GUNTHER and looks to connect with a third one on Zayn. Zayn intercepts Owens with a Blue Thunder Bomb and pins him, but Owens kicks out and Zayn calls for the Helluva Kick on him. Owens escapes and delivers a Stunner to Zayn, then pins him for the win.

Winner (and new Number One Contender): Kevin Owens

Baron Corbin then makes his way to the ring. Trick Williams and Lil Yachty follow. 

The bell rings and Williams delivers a flapjack to Corbin. He kips up and fires off a chop on Corbin, then fires off stomps on him in the corner and clotheslines him out of the ring. Williams grabs a table from under the ring and sets it up on the outside, but Corbin delivers a Deep Six to Williams before he sends him crashing into the ring post and the ring steps.

Corbin rains down right hands on Williams back inside the ring, then exchanges right hands with him as Williams stands on the ring apron. Yachty gets in Corbin's face, but Corbin shoves him and Yachty grabs a kendo stick. He chases him inside the ring, where Williams is waiting with a neckbreaker and a pair of lariats. He follows it up with a Uranage and goes for a pin, but Corbin kicks out.

Williams gets Corbin up on his shoulders, but Corbin manages to escape and Yachty hits him with the kendo stick while the referee isn't looking. Williams follows it up with a Falcon Arrow to Corbin and pins him, but Corbin kicks out and Williams levels him with a pump kick.

Corbin uses the top rope to deliver a jawbreaker to Williams and grabs the United States Championship belt. Yachty tries grabbing the United States Championship belt from Corbin, but Corbin gets in his face. Williams goes after Corbin, but when hitting him, accidentally sends Yachty crashing through the table. This opens the door for Corbin to hit Williams with the United States Championship belt as the referee checks on Yachty and follow it up with an End of Days for the win.

Winner (and new): Baron Corbin

Jade Cargill, Tiffany Stratton, Chelsea Green, Lash Legend, and Charlotte Flair then all make their way to the ring.

Cargill goes after Flair on the outside as the bell rings, but Flair sends Cargill crashing into one of the barricades. Cargill then sends Flair crashing into a ladder on the bottom of the entrance ramp face first as Legend powerbombs Stratton into another ladder on the outside. Green looks to land a dive on Legend outside of the ring, but Legend sees her coming and chokeslams her into the ladder.

Legend slides one of the ladders into the ring and dumps Green over the barricade, but Flair fires off chops on Legend and Legend responds by bodyslamming Flair on top of one of the ladders. Cargill and Legend stare one another down as Stratton and Green slide a ladder into the ring, but Cargill and Legend look to use the ladder on Stratton and Green. Stratton and Green duck out of the way and rain down right hands on Cargill and Legend in the corner, but Legend and Cargill fight them off before delivering pump kicks to them.

Flair delivers a crossbody to take out Cargill, then hits Cargill with the ladder to send her crashing out of the ring and wedges it in the corner. Legend delivers a Gorilla Press to Flair on the mat, but Stratton delivers a codebreaker to Legend. Green ascends up the ladder, but Cargill pulls her off and lands a Jaded on her on top of the ladder that Flair had wedged in the corner of the ring.

Flair sends Legend crashing into the ladder in the corner and ascends up the ladder in the middle of the ring. Cargill pulls the ladder out from under Flair and catches her, then sends her crashing into the ladder in the corner. Legend blindsides Cargill with a pump kick and ascends up the ladder in the middle of the ring, but Stratton joins her on it and fights off Legend. Legend pulls Stratton off the ladder, but Stratton sends Legend crashing into a ladder in the corner of the ring and climbs up the ladder in the middle looking to grab the Women's Championship belt.

Green pushes Stratton off the ladder to send her crashing onto Flair, Cargill, and Legend on the outside. She sets up another ladder in the middle of the ring to grab the Women's Championship belt, but Michin and B-Fab run out to go after Green. They fire off stomps on her and Michin holds Green in place for B-Fab to deliver a boot to the side of her head.

B-Fab grabs Cargill from outside the ring as Michin sets up a ladder for her. Cargill ascends up it, but Flair takes out B-Fab with a boot and clotheslines Michin out of the ring. She joins Cargill on the ladder, but Legend and Stratton ascend up a third ladder. Cargill steps onto the second ladder to send Stratton and Legend crashing off their ladder, then looks to grab the Women's Championship belt. Flair stops her, and herself and Cargill are sent crashing off their ladder. Left alone in the ring, Green ascends up the ladder to grab the Women's Championship belt and win the match.

Winner (and new): Chelsea Green

Dominik Mysterio then makes his way to the ring. Danhausen follows. 

The bell rings and Danhausen delivers a suplex to Dominik. Dominik fires off stomps on Danhausen in the corner, but Danhausen looks to grab the money. JD McDonagh pulls off Danhausen and delivers a moonsault to Danhausen off the top rope, but the Minihausens appear to go after McDonagh. McDonagh fights them off, but one of the Minihausens level McDonagh with a springboard shoulder tackle.

Another Minihausen delivers a diving hurricanrana to Dominik and flies out of the ring to take him out on the outside as Danhausen crawls into the ring. McDonagh sends one of the Minihausens crashing into the barricade and looks to pull Dominik out of the ring, but Joe Hendry runs out to hit McDonagh with his guitar.

Danhausen and Dominik stare one another down from adjacent sides of the ring and look to grab the money, but Danhausen curses Dominik by blowing up pyro out of the ring post into his face. He then grabs the human monies off the pole to win the match.

Winner: Danhausen

Chad Gable then makes his way to the ring. Penta follows. 

The bell rings and the two men shake hands with one another. They then lock up, but Gable looks to cinch in an Ankle Lock on Penta. Penta kicks out and delivers a Sling Blade before flying out of the ring with a tope con hilo to level Gable on the outside. 

Penta fires off kicks on Gable's tricep, but Gable connects with a German suplex on Penta on the ring apron and delivers a moonsault to take out Penta on the outside. He follows it up with a diving headbutt on Penta off the top rope back inside the ring and goes for a pin, but Penta kicks out and Gable cinches in an Ankle Lock on him. Penta taps out.

Winner (and new): Chad Gable

After the match, Penta puts the Intercontinental Championship on Gable and raises his arm. Gable's family joins him in the ring to celebrate his victory with him. 

Seth Rollins then makes his way to the ring. Roman Reigns follows.

The bell rings and the two men stare one another down. They then lock up, but Reigns levels Rollins with a shoulder tackle and Rollins responds with a Sling Blade to Reigns. He delivers a pair of kicks to Reigns and rocks him with a forearm in the corner, but Reigns levels Rollins with a clothesline and fires off more on him in the corner.

Rollins delivers a pair of suicide dives to rock Reigns on the outside, but Reigns clotheslines Rollins over the barricade and the two men brawl with one another through the crowd. Reigns sends Rollins crashing into a guard rail throat first, but Rollins hits Reigns with a pole and suplexes him onto a part of the floor with metal. Reigns powerbombs Rollins through the Spanish announce desk back in the ringside area, but Rollins returns the favor by powerbombing Reigns through the English announce desk.

The referee begins a ten count, but both Rollins and Reigns beat it. Rollins catches Reigns with a Pedigree back in the ring, but Reigns kicks out and Rollins sends him crashing into the middle turnbuckle. He follows it up with a Curb Stomp and goes for a pin, but Reigns kicks out and Rollins sits him on the top rope.

Rollins joins Reigns on the ropes and lands a superplex on him, but Reigns cinches in a Guillotine on Rollins. He brings it to the mat, but Rollins manages to escape and Reigns catches him with a spear. He goes for a pin, but Rollins kicks out and catches Reigns with a spear of his own as Reigns runs the ropes.

Rollins pins Reigns, but Reigns kicks out and Rollins catches him with a Buckle Bomb. Reigns returns the favor by delivering a Buckle Bomb to Rollins and following it up with a Curb Stomp before going for a pin. Rollins kicks out and exchanges right hands with Reigns in the center of the ring, but the referee is knocked down.

Reigns delivers a DDT to Rollins and looks to spear him, but accidentally spears the referee. Rollins intercepts Reigns with a Curb Stomp and opts to grab a chair from the ringside area, but Reigns connects with an open palm strike on Rollins and picks up the chair. He tosses it aside and stares down Rollins.

Rollins and Reigns exchange right hands with one another, but Reigns rocks Rollins with a Superman Punch and looks to land a spear on him. Rollins intercepts Reigns with a Pedigree and looks to connect with a Curb Stomp, but Reigns moves out of the way. Rollins catches Reigns with a Curb Stomp and ascends to the top rope, then looks to deliver a second one to Reigns. Reigns responds by landing two spears on Rollins and delivers a third one to him for the win.

Winner (and still): Roman Reigns

After the match, Reigns extends his fist to Rollins. Rollins puts his fist in the middle with Reigns as a throwback to their days in the Shield, then heads to the back as Reigns poses on the turnbuckles with his World Heavyweight Championship belt and the show goes off the air.
