AEW Dynamite Results 8/12 - TNT Championship On The Line & More

Kevin Knight will be putting his TNT Championship on the line as he defends against Jericho. Not only has Knight had successful defenses against the likes of Darby Allin, Lio Rush, Brian Cage, HOOK, Dezmond Xavier and Myron Reed, and MJF among others across "Dynamite" and "AEW Collision" over the last several weeks, but himself and Jericho met in the ring during last Wednesday's "Dynamite" Grand Slam Mexico television special when Jericho, Mistico, and Allin emerged victorious against Knight and his stablemates Kazuchika Okada and Hechicero.

Two more competitors look to advance to the next round of blind draws in the Continental Challenge Cup Tournament, as reigning Continental Champion and Death Riders leader Jon Moxley squares off against Jack Perry while The Dogs' David Finlay goes one-on-one with Jay White of The Bang Bang Gang in a pair of first round matches. Orange Cassidy of The Conglomeration, Eddie Kingston, and Moxley's stablemate Claudio Castagnoli all advanced to the next round of the Continental Challenge Cup Tournament this past Saturday on "Collision", defeating Matt Sydal, The Don Callis Family's Jake Doyle, and White's stablemate Ace Austin respectively.

MJF will be taking part in his first match since being dethroned as AEW World Champion by Kenny Omega during the "Dynamite" Beach Break special on July 8 as he squares off against Nick Wayne and "Speedball" Mike Bailey in a Three-Way Match with the Number Two Spot in the Casino Gauntlet Match at AEW All In on August 30 awaiting the winner. Andrade secured the Number One Spot in the All In Casino Gauntlet Match last Wednesday when he emerged victorious against Komander and Tommaso Ciampa in a Three-Way Match.

We are live! Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Paul Wight greet audiences at home as Will Ospreay makes his way to the ring.

Ospreay asks how the live crowd is doing and says he wants to talk to the fans about something that happened to him last year. He recalls being nervous heading into the Arena Mexico last year and receiving a text from his mother telling him to call her, during which he found out that his granddad had died. He recalls thinking that his granddad would've told him to go out in front of the Mexico City crowd to do flips, then says no matter what's going on in his personal life, he always will give everything he has to the fans.

Ospreay says he knows that there was one person who was sitting on the couch listening to him last Wednesday: Kenny Omega. He says if Omega isn't doing anything backstage, he should come to the ring to meet him.

Don Callis' music instead hits and he makes his way out. He says he knew he needed the perfect tool to exploit AEW: Omega. He says himself and Omega went on an unmatched run with the AEW World Championship, but Omega made a critical error by thinking he could do it without him. He says he's done more damage to Omega's life than diverticulitis ever could've, then says he brought Ospreay into AEW by booking him against Omega at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2023.

Four members of The Don Callis begin attacking Ospreay: Jake Doyle, Mark Davis, Rocky Romero, and Trent Beretta. Omega's music hits and he makes his way to the ring with a medal pipe in hand, using it to take out The Don Callis Family members.

Omega tells Ospreay that when Ospreay talks from the heart, he has a way with words. He says he feels everything Ospreay says, but Ospreay wears his heart on his sleeve and therefore never thinks. He asks Ospreay what he thought would happen and says he warned him about Callis and Jon Moxley, then extends his hand to Ospreay as he helps him up. He says he hopes Ospreay understands that he can't help him like this again and says from now on, it's just him and Ospreay.

Ospreay says he appreciates Omega's help, but didn't ask for it and says he won't need Omega's help again.

MJF then makes his way to the ring. Nick Wayne and "Speedball" Mike Bailey follow. 

The bell rings and MJF slides out of the ring. Bailey mockingly pats Wayne's head, and the two men go back and forth with one another before Bailey delivers a hurricanrana to Wayne and Wayne responds with an uppercut to Bailey.

Wayne flies over the top rope with a tope con hilo to take out Bailey on the outside, then dumps him back in the ring. MJF gets back inside, but Bailey delivers a missile dropkick to MJF to send him crashing back out of the ring. Bailey ascends up the middle rope, but MJF pulls him off and holds Bailey in place for Wayne to land a right hand on Bailey's midsection.

MJF raises Wayne's arm and pins Bailey, but Wayne pulls MJF off Bailey and gets in MJF's face. MJF slaps Wayne, but Wayne levels MJF with a thrust kick and delivers a Snap Dragon suplex to Bailey. Bailey responds with a pair of double flipping knees to Wayne and connects with a springboard moonsault to take out MJF and Wayne on the outside.

Back from the break, Wayne delivers a spinning kick to Bailey's head and follows it up with the Prodigy Plex. He goes for a pin, but MJF breaks the fall and Wayne sets up for Wayne's World. MJF intercepts Wayne with a right hand and delivers a powerbomb-backbreaker combination for him.

Bailey delivers a pair of flipping knees to the back of Wayne's spine, but MJF dumps Bailey out of the ring and cinches in the Salt of the Earth Armbar on Wayne. Wayne taps out.

Winner of the Number Two Spot in the All In Casino Gauntlet Match: MJF

After the match, MJF begins to gloat about securing the Number Two spot in the All In Casino Gauntlet Match. Andrade El Idolo's music hits, but he doesn't appear and MJF begins to smile. He says Andrade isn't in Las Vegas because he beat him last week.

David Finlay then makes his way to the ring. Jay White follows. 

The bell rings and Finlay fires off stomps on White in the corner. White delivers a hurricanrana to Finlay off the middle rope, then flies over the top rope to take out Finlay on the outside. White sends Finlay crashing into the ring apron midsection first and delivers a chop to him, then connects with a suplex on him back inside the ring and goes for a pin. Finlay kicks out.

Back from the break, White fires off right hands on Finlay's head. He levels Finlay with a kick to his chest and sends him crashing into the mat, but Finlay lands a Brainbuster on White and goes for a pin. White kicks out, but Finlay levels him with three lariats. White responds with a Blade Runner to Finlay for the win.

Winner: Jay White

Schiavone introduces Page, King, and Bandido. All three men make their way to the ring, and King says he's a man who likes his actions to speak louder than words. He celebrates being the new AEW World Trios Champions.

Before Page can speak, Swerve Strickland's music hits and he makes his way out with Prince Nana. Nana tells Schiavone to get out of the ring and says himself and Strickland will be asking the questions from now on. He asks who's house it is, and Strickland asks Nana about trauma bonding. He asks Nana if there's really three guys who he's had plenty of issues with teaming up now, then asks what happened to AEW and says Page, King, and Bandido have nothing in common other than him. He says he ran through Bandido's town and beat him, then says himself and King go to war with one another the way they do because of their history.

The Demand's music hits and they make their way out along with The Lethal Twist. Ricochet asks Strickland why he's in the ring because it's official World Trios Championship business, then points out that Strickland is one man in the ring. He says Strickland and Nana showered him in toilet paper and dropped The Gates of Agony, but he saw the potential in Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona to lead them to the World Trios Championship before Page, King, and Bandido stole it from them. Ricochet says Liona's shoulders were not on the mat and says there are nine guys alone at ringside who hate Strickland with plenty more in the back, then tells Strickland to swerve out of his arena.

Strickland stares down Ricochet on the entrance ramp and looks to leave, but Strickland says King may be doing all the bargaining while Ricochet is the b****. Page then dares The Demand to get in the ring, but Ricochet says they will on their own time.

We then head over to a video of a sit down interview between Willow Nightingale and Renee Paquette, where Mercedes Mone appears and blindsides Nightingale with an attack.

Back at ringside, Jericho makes his way out. Kevin Knight and Don Callis follow. 

Knight goes after Jericho in the corner, and the bell rings. Jericho fires off chops on Knight and delivers a Brainbuster to him, then follows it up with a backbreaker and rains down right hands on Knight in the corner as the two men teeter on the ropes. Jericho pulls Knight off with a hurricanrana and clotheslines him out of the ring, then lands a crossbody on him off the ropes to take him out on the outside. Knight responds with a clothesline to Jericho off the announce desk to level him on the outside.

Back from the break, Knight looks to deliver a springboard moonsault on Jericho. Jericho gets his knees up and runs over Knight with a pair of shoulder tackles, and the two men take turns pinning one another before Knight pins Jericho with his feet on the ropes. The referee catches Knight, but Jericho rolls up Knight with his feet on the ropes as the referee misses it. Knight kicks out.

Jericho cinches in the Walls of Jericho on Knight, but Callis hits Jericho with a screwdriver to break the hold. Knight ascends to the top rope and delivers a Coast to Coast to Jericho, then goes for a pin but Jericho kicks out. Knight then low blows Jericho as the referee has her back turned and follows it up with Crash Landing for the win.

Winner (and still): Kevin Knight

Kris Statlander then makes her way to the ring. Viva Van is already waiting inside. 

The bell rings and Statlander levels Van with a shoulder tackle. Van responds with a hurricanrana to Statlander, but Statlander sends Van crashing into the mat and delivers a step-up tijeras to her. She charges at Van in the corner, but Van moves out of the way and delivers a flipping kick to Statlander's head. Statlander then delivers Wednesday Night Fever to Van and pins her for the win.

Winner: Kris Statlander

After the match, Mick Foley joins Statlander in the ring to inform her that she'll be part of a TBS Championship Four-Way Match next week wherein Maya World will defend her title against Statlander, Persephone, and Hikaru Shida. Statlander puts Persephone and Shida on notice when Foley asks for her thoughts on the match, but Shida and Persephone appear to surround Statlander around either side of the ring. Thunder Rosa and Maya World then make their way out for the upcoming match before things get physical. 

World and Persephone begin the action. The bell rings and Persephone tags out to Shida. Rosa tags in on her side and lands an arm drag on Shida, then sends her crashing into the middle rope and delivers a knee to the back of her neck. Persephone tags back in and Rosa lands an overhand chop on her, then delivers a dropkick to send Shida crashing off the ring apron.

Back from the break, Rosa levels Shida and Persephone with a double lariat. World tags in and lands a double dropkick on Shida and Persephone, then lands back elbows on both women in opposite corners and delivers a suplex to Persephone as she has Shida pinned. Shida kicks out.

World delivers a Stunner to Shida, but Shida looks to land a running knee on World. World moves out of the way and Shida hits Persephone with the knee to send her crashing off the ring apron. She then delivers a Northern Lights suplex to Shida and pins her for the win.

Winners: Maya World and Thunder Rosa

After the match, Statlander joins World and Rosa in the ring to celebrate their win with them.

We then head over to a video from Darby Allin, who challenges Kevin Knight to a Falls Count Anywhere Match.
