AEW Dynamite Results 8/19 - Four-Way TBS Championship Match And More

Maya World will be putting her TBS Championship on the line as she defends against CMLL World Women's Champion Persephone, Hikaru Shida, and Kris Statlander in a Four-Way Match. With Statlander having been shown to have plenty of issues with Shida and Persephone over the last few weeks, the latter two women defeated World and her tag team partner Hyan on the August 8 episode of "AEW Collision". World and Thunder Rosa subsequently scored a win against Shida and Persephone during last Wednesday's episode of "Dynamite" when Shida accidentally knocked Persephone off the ring apron while she was aiming for World.

Will Ospreay will be challenging Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship at AEW All In on August 30. Before the two men meet in London, England, they will both be sitting down with AEW broadcaster Renee Paquette and taking part in a pair of trios matches. Omega will be joining forces with his Elite stablemates Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson to square off against Mark Davis, El Clon, and Jake Doyle of The Don Callis Family, while Ospreay will be teaming up with his New Japan Pro-Wrestling United Empire stablemates Henare and Francesco Akira to face fellow Don Callis Family members Brian Cage, Rocky Romero, and Lance Archer.

Speaking of The Don Callis Family, Hechicero will be in action as he squares off against Nigel McGuinness while Continental Champion Jon Moxley collides with The Bang Bang Gang's Jay White in a pair of quarterfinals matches for the Continental Challenge Cup. Moxley and White defeated Jack Perry and The Dogs' David Finlay respectively in a pair of first round matches last Wednesday to secure their spots in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Hechicero and McGuinness emerged victorious against the aforementioned Cage and The Opps' Katsuyori Shibata in two more first round matches from this past Saturday's episode of "AEW Collision" as Roderick Strong also advanced to the quarterfinals that same night with a win against his Conglomeration stablemate Kyle O'Reilly.

Additionally, titleholder Willow Nightingale and Mercedes Mone will be sitting down with the aforementioned Paquette ahead of their All In AEW Women's World Championship match.

We are live! Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Taz greet audiences at home as United Empire makes their way to the ring. The Don Callis Family.

Ospreay and Brian Cage begin the action. The bell rings and Ospreay looks to land a hurricanrana on Cage. Cage avoids it, but Akira tags in and Ospreay assists him in delivering a move to Rocky Romero (who has tagged in on his side). Henare and Lance Archer tag in, and Henare looks to level Archer with a series of shoulder tackles. Archer blocks them and connects with one of his own on Henare, then fires off chops on him in the corner.

Henare delivers a spinning kick to Archer's head, then tags in Ospreay. Ospreay and Henare whip Archer into the ropes for Henare to land a running senton on Archer. Henare and Ospreay then help Akira deliver a splash to Archer, but Archer sets up for a chokeslam on Akira. Akira lands a double kick under Archer's jaw before Romero takes a cheap shot at Akira from the ring apron.

Back from the break, Ospreay tags in and levels Romero. He delivers a corkscrew kick to Cage and an enzuigiri to Romero in the corner as Henare delivers a step-up knee strike at the same time to him. Ospreay pins Romero, but Archer breaks the fall and Akira fires off chops on him. Archer swiftly levels Akira with a forearm, but Henare delivers a Samoan Drop to him. Cage takes out Henare with a discus lariat, but Ospreay catches Cage with a reverse hurricanrana.

Romero sets up for a sliced bread on Ospreay, but Ospreay escapes. Opreay helps Akira deliver a kick to take out Cage on the outside and follows it up with a moonsault to him off the ring apron. Romero slides into the corner, but Ospreay catches him with a Hidden Blade for the win.

Winners: Will Ospreay, Henare, and Francesco Akira

Schiavone introduces Fletcher, and he makes his way out. Schiavone asks Fletcher for his thoughts about Kazuchika Okada telling Renee Paquette backstage that he expects Fletcher to raise his hand if he dethrones him in their International Championship Three-Way Match at All In that also involves Konosuke Takeshita, and Fletcher says that his reign with the International Championship is the greatest of all time, then says he doesn't plan on letting that stop on August 30. He says he owes Don Callis a lot and is willing to do along with this plan, then addresses Takeshita and calls him selfish.

Takeshita's music hits and he makes his way out. He gets into the ring and brawls with Fletcher, but Fletcher delivers a Half Nelson suplex to Takeshita. Takeshita intercepts Fletcher with a Blue Thunder Bomb and follows it up with a poisionrana, then delivers a knee strike to Fletcher and connects with a Raging Fire on him. Takeshita grabs the International Championship belt and holds it up as he stands over Fletcher as commentary questions where Okada is.

Paquette asks Ospreay and Omega for their first impressions upon meeting one another in PWG, and Ospreay admits he was out of his depth at that point who wanted to make a name for himself. Omega says he saw the potential in Ospreay.

Paquette asks Omega what had changed in Ospreay when they squared off at New Japan Pro-Wrestling's Wrestle Kingdom 17, and Omega says Ospreay had become the face of NJPW. He says NJPW needed to sell tickets, but Ospreay's name alone couldn't do that and his own name could. Ospreay responds by saying himself and Omega experienced very different Covid-19 professional wrestling experiences.

Paquette moves things along, and Omega says he had no reason to believe that Don Callis didn't have his best interest in mind during their partnership during Covid 19 before he could see what was really happening. Ospreay says Omega has shown no remorse for any of that, and Omega asks Ospreay how that's different from Ospreay disrespecting Canada and himself. He says he forgives Ospreay and says Ospreay is not on his level.

Paquette asks both men about their injuries in the past. Omega says he had to start using his head after his diverticulitis and asks Ospreay if he's confident being back in the ring after surgery on three discs in his neck. Ospreay says Omega has never viewed him as his equal, but Omega questions if Ospreay is really the one with the big ego. Ospreay becomes increasingly heated as he says All In is the biggest moment of his life and means a lot to him. He says no man in England has ever won a title in the United Kingdom, but Omega brings up Ospreay's mother. Ospreay stands up, but security stops him as Omega says there's a lot riding on their All In match for him as well. He says Ospreay brings out magic in him and says even if he loses, his mother will still be proud of him even if his stepson won't feel the same.

Hikaru Shida, Kris Statlander, Persephone, and Maya World then all make their way out. 

The bell rings and Statlander fires off chops on Shida in the middle of the ring. Shida sends Statlander crashing onto the ring apron, then rocks her with an enzuigiri. World connects with an uppercut on Persephone, and Shida pulls Statlander off the ring apron. World delivers a forearm to Shida on the outside, but Persephone delivers a kick to World off the ring apron.

Statlander sends Persephone crashing into Shida, but World delivers a dive to Statlander through the middle rope to take her out on the outside. Persephone gets World in an electric chair position and sends her crashing into the ring apron face first.

Back from the break, World delivers a double stomp to Persephone's chest. Shida delivers an Exploder to World in the corner before World and Statlander exchange elbows with one another. Shida delivers a missile dropkick to Statlander off the middle rope and follows it up with a Falcon Arrow.

Persephone delivers a shotgun dropkick to send Shida crashing into the corner, but World rolls up Persephone. Persephone kicks out, but Shida delivers a knee strike to World and extends her hand to Persephone. Persephone kicks it away and lands a boot on Shida's midsection, then gets her in a Razor's Edge position.

Statlander pulls Shida out of Persephone's grasp to land a powerbomb on her, then levels Persephone with a discus lariat and pins her. World breaks the fall by flying off the top rope, then rolls up Statlander for the win.

Winner (and still): Kris Statlander

Jay White then makes his way to the ring. Jon Moxley follows.

The bell rings and the two men wear one another down with submission holds.

Back from the break, Moxley fires off right hands and chops on White in the corner. White responds with a series of elbows to Moxley, but White fires off right hands and chops on Moxley in the corner and rains down elbow strikes on him. The action spills out of the ring, and Moxley whips White into one of the barricades. White cinches in a Brutalizer on Moxley back inside the ring, but Moxley makes it over to the bottom rope to break the hold.

Back from another break, White delivers a suplex to Moxley. Moxley cinches in the Bulldog Choke on White, but White escapes and delivers another suplex to Moxley as commentary notes it's the fourth one that Moxley has taken. He sends Moxley crashing into the mat and pins him, but Moxley kicks out and White connects with a superplex on him off the ropes.

Moxley cinches the Bulldog Choke back in on White, but White transitions into a pinfall. Moxley kicks out at the last second, but White catches him with a Blade Runner. Moxley rolls out of the ring before he can be pinned, then cinches the Bulldog Choke back in on White. White powers up to his feet, but Moxley delivers a Blade Runner to White and pins him. White kicks out, but Moxley transitions back into the Bulldog Choke. White fades.

Winner (and still): Jon Moxley

After the match, David Finlay and Clark Connors jump White from behind as he's dstracted by Moxley on the ring apron. Orange Cassidy and Kyle O'Reilly come to White's aid, but Gabe Kidd appears to even the odds for Finlay and Connors. Bandido, Brody King, and "Hangman" Adam Page come to The Conglomeration's aid until The Demand and The Lethal Twist appear, but Page says if anyone wants a shot at the AEW World Trios Championship, they should meet them under the Wembley Stadium arch at dusk. 

Cruz introduces himself as MJF's personal Spanish translator, then pulls out a proclamation from his pocket from MJF to Andrade El Idolo. He reads it out in Spanish, then repeats it in English: Andrade will never be the real AEW World Champion. He says he would say what he has to Andrade's face if Andrade was in Baltimore, then says MJF will always be better than Andrade.

Cruz looks to leave the ring, but Andrade's music hits and he makes his way out. The bell rings and Andrade quickly lands the DM on Cruz for the win.

Winner: Andrade El Idolo

After the match, Andrade's music hits and he calls MJF to the ring. MJF's music hits, but he doesn't appear at ringside and instead appears on the jumbo tron in a hot tub. He says he's in New York soaking up the sun and says the travel team told him that Andrade was heading to Baltimore. This prompts Andrade to deliver a second DM to Cruz.

We then head over to Renee Paquette sitting down with Willow Nightingale and Mercedes Mone via satellite. Mone calls Nightingale a "dumb b****" and promises to end her once and for all, but Nightingale says the reason she's smiling is because of the fans. She says Mone has spent her career trying to be perfect and says the connection she has with the fans is one that Mone has been trying to chase for entire career. Mone tells Nightingale to keep smiling until she takes the AEW Women's World Championship from her at All In, prompting Nightingale to get up to look for Mone.

Mone blindsides Nightingale and drags her into the ringside area. The two women continue to brawl, but security pulls them apart until Mone breaks free. Security pulls Mone out of the ring to get the two women separated.
