Kevin Owens On WWE Universal Title Run: 'I Barely Remember Any Of It, And That Sucks'
Next week will officially mark 10 years since Kevin Owens won the Universal Championship during a Fatal 4-Way Elimination Match on "WWE Raw," but despite the title win being one of the biggest moments of his career, the Canadian star doesn't look back very fondly on his reign.
In a recent interview with "Faces Magazine," Owens claimed that he was too preoccupied with the future of his Universal Championship run that he doesn't have much recollection of being the company's top titleholder.
"I was so busy with 'what's next, what's next, what's next' I barely remember any of it, and that sucks because it was incredible ... I barely remember the night I won it, and it should be a huge thing that I remember for a long time, but quite frankly, I barely remember it. When I won it, I was worried about 'what are we doing on SmackDown or what are we doing next week on Raw.'
Six years later, Owens would have the opportunity to main event WrestleMania against "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, and unlike his Universal Championship reign, "KO" made sure to take in the moment and enjoy his match against the WWE Hall Of Famer.
"I remember thinking before I stepped out of the curtain (at WrestleMania 38), when I wrestled Stone Cold Steve Austin, I remember telling myself 'Make you enjoy this, make sure you remember it, like, take time to soak it in' which I did, so I have these memories."
Tonight, Owens has the opportunity to win his second world title, as he will challenge CM Punk for the Undisputed WWE Championship on "WWE SmackDown" in Toronto, Canada.
