Jim Ross Explains Why He Didn't Enjoy Getting In The Ring In WWE

On a few occasions, Jim Ross would swap his seat at the commentary table to step into the ring and actually throw down with other wrestlers as well as Eric Bischoff and Michael Cole. These moments got fans to see Ross in a different light, but the veteran commentator claims he never liked it.

"You've only got so much time to create content, and once that time lapses and it moves on, you can't go back and retrieve it," he expressed during an episode of his "Grilling JR" podcast, adding that he wouldn't have made the House shows anyway. "I don't need to be in the ring doing this, I've not been trained, I got common sense but (...) it takes away from talents." 

Ross further noted that actual wrestlers on the roster could have used the screen time to get over, get onto pay-per-views, and enhance themselves as talent.

"Sometimes I sit back and think about that, and say, 'Ol' JR,' as the say in the locker room, 'Somehow or another, by hook or crook, you got over?' And people cared when I sold!" Ross further expressed. However, it wasn't all doom and gloom for Ross, as he fondly looked back at his pairing with John Cena. "What a mighty team we made! To take on Alberto del Rio and Michael Cole," he recalled. 

Earlier this month, Ross also commented on being involved in segments, admitting that it was embarrassing for him to step into the ring, and concluding that the only reason he ever got over in match segments was because of his already established popularity as a commentator.
