Actor Danny McBride Reportedly Set To Become Recurring Character For Indie Promotion

Pro wrestling has attracted its fair share of unexpected celebrity appearances over the years, with the likes of Seth Green, Jon Stewart, and David Arquette shocking fans with their appearances. 

According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Danny McBride, star of films such as "Pineapple Express," "Alien: Covenant," and "The Foot Fist Way," as well as television shows like "The Righteous Gemstones" and "Vice Principals," will be joining those ranks as a recurring character on MLW. The promotion shot footage at a recent taping in Arena Coliseo in Mexico City. MLW founder Court Bauer was involved in McBride's show, "Eastbound & Down," which led the two to collaborate.

Alongside longtime collaborator Steve Little, McBride has been appearing with a mysterious masked luchador known simply as Don Gato. So far, their appearances have chronicled the legend of Don Gato, who is a tequila-loving luchador, named for McBride's tequila brand. McBride, who is a North Carolina wrestling fan, and the producers of "Eastbound & Down" had been very open about basing Will Ferrell's Ashley Schaffer character on WWE Hall of Famer "Nature Boy" Ric Flair during the show's run from 2009-2013.

The inclusion of McBride on MLW television comes into play alongside the news that they've recently secured a streaming deal with Tubi to air their recently revitalized "MLW Fusion" weekly show, every Thursday night. 

MLW also has Oscar nominee Paul Walter Hauser, who wrestles on the independent scene when not starring in movies like "Richard Jewell" and "The Naked Gun."
