Samoa Joe was the first man, outside of the AEW World Champion, to qualify for the AEW WrestleDream Clockwork Carnage match for the company's top title with a victory over "Jungle" Jack Perry on "AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam Paris." The star recently returned at All Out to answer Perry's call-out, and the "Dynamite" bout was Joe's first match since May.

Perry charged Joe to start off the match, but Joe picked him up and threw him across the ring. Perry continued to try and get the upper hand on Joe throughout the match, but Joe's size proved to be a bit too much.

The former AEW World Champion chopped Perry over the ring barricade into the first row, and the show came back from a break to Joe doing his infamous walk-away spot from Perry's attempted move off the top rope. Joe nailed him with hard chops, but Perry continued to get back to his feet. The former "Jungle Boy" tried to rally with a thrust kick, and succeeded to get Joe down.

He attempted to get Joe up for a piledriver, but Joe countered into a back body drop. Perry tried for a rollup, but Joe kicked out, and Perry was able to briefly lock in the snare trap.

Perry was nearly counted out after Joe laid him out on the outside, but broke the count at nine. Perry almost had Joe pinned with a counter off the rear-naked choke, but in the end, Joe hit the muscle buster for the win.
