WWE's The Miz Thought He'd Be Fired After Intense Talking Smack Promo
WWE's "Talking Smack" ran as a weekly series on the WWE Network for just under a year, and its most famous moment came shortly after the show got underway. In August 2016, then-Intercontinental Champion The Miz went face-to-face with "Talking Smack" co-host Daniel Bryan, in a fiery segment where the then-retired Bryan told Miz he was a coward and didn't like the way he wrestled.
Miz perceived it as Bryan thinking less of him for not being an independent scene darling, like Bryan, and went off. During the promo, Miz said that while Bryan called him a coward, Bryan was "the one that doesn't get in the WWE ring again." The shocking line caused Bryan to walk off the set, though Miz thought he was going to get punched, and it also led the "A-Lister" to believe he was going to be in a lot of trouble, something he explained in a video of his greatest moments posted to WWE Vault.
"In my head, I'm going, 'What did I just say? What did I just say? Did I just get myself fired?'" Miz explained. "I remember getting a text from Kevin Dunn and Vince and they were like, 'We are popping off of this. This is awesome.' And I'm like, 'Wow. I did it.' The next week, I got to be the start of the show. From then on, that title was made to look like a main event title."
Miz explained that he already had a bad night before the heated segment, as he had just been drafted to "WWE SmackDown." When he arrived at the show that night, he found out that he'd just be in a dark match, which he wasn't happy about.
