Former ECW Star Says Cody Rhodes Asked Him To Come Out Of Retirement Multiple Times
Cody Rhodes has always been a student of the game, and always goes out of his way to pay respect to those performers who paved the way for people like him. However, there are some retired wrestlers who Rhodes wanted to wrestle so much that even though they had hung up their boots, he would pester them to unretire as much as he could, and one of those wrestlers is a former ECW World Heavyweight Champion.
During a recent edition of the "What Happened When?" podcast with AEW broadcaster Tony Schiavone, former ECW star Jerry Lynn was welcomed on as a special guest where both Schiavone and co-host Conrad Thompson praised Lynn for being one of the most beloved wrestlers of his generation, as well as one of the most respected wrestlers currently working in AEW. Lynn went on to reveal that when Rhodes was in AEW, he would constantly ask Lynn to just have one more match.
"I couldn't tell you how many times Cody asked me 'Come on, one more match.' I told him I would need a good divorce lawyer." When Schiavone jokingly asked if Lynn's wife Pam was that strict about her husband's retirement, Lynn did make an exception. "Well you know, it probably all comes to how much," Lynn said. "I'm sure if it would, you know, pay off her car, she'd be fine with it."
Lynn hasn't wrestled since 2013 after wrestling his retirement match on the 25th anniversary of his debut back in 1988. However, he has made some on-screen appearances for AEW over the years, including in 2023 when he Rob Van Dam to the company as a way to try and get the FTW Championship away from Jack Perry.
