A WRESTLING ICON SAYS "GOODBYE".
News items to report from Saturday's "iMPACT!"
Sting LEAVES ON HIS OWN TERMS
It was certainly an emotional ending to "iMPACT!" on Saturday night on SpikeTV, as the wrestling icon known as Sting surprised – and saddened fans – by announcing he was walking away from the sport of wrestling on his own terms. The star talked candidly about his memories competing all over the world, stating that his match with Christian Cage against Jeff Jarrett and The Alpha Male was indeed the "Final Resolution" in his amazing career. After telling the fans he "loved them all", Sting placed his black bat in the middle of the ring and walked back up the entrance ramp for the last time in his career, where he was met by various members of the TNA roster including AJ Styles and Christian Cage. It appears as if one of the biggest names in wrestling history has finally closed the book on his career – and he did it on his own terms.
Christian Cage GETS THE WORLD TITLE SHOT AT "AGAINST ALL ODDS"
It was also announced on Saturday's "iMPACT!" that "Captain Charisma" Christian Cage will get his first shot at the NWA World Heavyweight Title against "King of the Mountain" Jeff Jarrett at the "Against All Odds" Pay-Per-View on February 12. Since arriving in TNA in November, Christian Cage has stated his goal is to "liberate the gold from Jarrett" and become NWA World Heavyweight Champion. He'll get his opportunity to do just that on Sunday, February 12 on Pay-Per-View!
TEAM 3D LETS THE FANS DECIDE – TEAM CANADA OR AMW?
Last week, Team 3D went to Larry Zbyszko demanding revenge against both Team Canada and America's Most Wanted at the "Against All Odds" Pay-Per-View. Larry Z told Team 3D they could only face one, and they had a week to make their pick. However, rather than making their decision on Saturday's "iMPACT!", Team 3D announced they would let the fans decide on TNAwrestling.com! Voting is now open on the homepage of the website, with polls closing this Tuesday morning, January 31, prior to the "iMPACT!" tapings in Orlando.
THE FALLEN ANGEL ADDED TO THE X CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH AT "AGAINST ALL ODDS"
It was also announced on "iMPACT!" that "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels has been added to the X Championship Match at "Against All Odds", making it another much-anticipated three-way pitting Champion Samoa Joe against AJ Styles and Daniels. The epic bout is a rematch of their incredible September 2005 "Unbreakable" main event match, where AJ Styles overcame Daniels and Joe to win the X gold in a match that finished in second place in "Match of the Year" voting on TNAwrestling.com! Certainly, fans are counting down the days to this epic rematch between the kingpins of the X Division!
RHINO AND ABYSS TEAR DOWN THE ARENA – LITERALLY!
Saturday's "Final Resolution" rematch between "The War Machine" Rhino and "The Monster" Abyss erupted into all-out chaos, as both TNA juggernauts went crashing through the steel "iMPACT!" entrance stage following a GORE! from Rhino on his nemesis. With both stars knocked out cold, TNA staff and medical personal immediately hit the scene while referee Andrew Thomas declared the bout a no-contest. Neither Rhino or Abyss required hospital care, but both will be extremely sore in the next few days as TNA officials go back to the drawing board in an attempt to end this ongoing battle between TNA's most destructive forces.
WHAT WAS ON THE TAPE RECORDER?
Jackie Gayda isn't about to let Jeff Jarrett off the hook after her list of demands weren't met by the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. She promised hard evidence of what she knew about Jarrett, and she apparently produced it on Saturday's "iMPACT!" during Jarrett's match against Jay Lethal. During the bout, Jackie came to ringside with a tape recorder in hand and got in the face of Gail Kim, telling her to listen to its contents. To Jarrett's shock, Gail walked off with the recorder to take a listen. Thus far neither Jarrett, Jackie or Gail Kim has offered comment on the audio.
